I don't have a cell phone. Whenever a man finds this out, I never hear from him again. What is going on? Do they think I am some kind of a freak? or is making a phone call not the thing to do these days? Advice?

No you're not a freak just because you haven't a cell phone.
The men must be scammers.
I donated my cell phone to the troops and don't miss not having it.

I still live as close to the earth as I can, and although I can and do use some electronic devices, it is sparingly. I have a landline telephone with a few basic features. Cable T.V. out of necessity (not very good reception here without it), only recently did I buy a micro-wave oven, which I don't use very much. I have no cell phone(s), no I-Pods/Pads, notebooks, or computers of any kind. (I use a public computer. This may change in the future). Did you know that people who resist the electronic age are discriminated against? Difficult to get work, even if that work is non-technical. Bank loans difficult if you aren't "playing the electronic game". Applications now ask for e-mail, twitter and facebook addresses, and if you don't write it for them, or don't have them, they act like they think you're stupid, or an oddball.

I don't either, except me. But I would rather be thought of as 'odd' than to find myself artificially connected to the world. People are out of touch with what life can and should be about, by being so much in a hurry, so anxious about devices, and they don't even know it until it's too late. It's tragic.

A cell phone is necessary if you wish to use a ell phone
I wouldnt be without mine, I dont have a landline and like my children and my Mother to be able to contact me if necessary.
I understand. But people are seen everywhere walking and talking, in restaurants, shops, even at friends' houses. The idea I'm trying to convey in the over-use, which undeniably is rampant. We didn't always have all these things, and got along without them. And, often enough a cell phone is not serviceable in some areas, because of weather and other geographical parameters. People (who are able) need to talk and visit with each other in person, people need to send real cards through the real mail service, and get their minds out of this fake, plastic, impersonal world of cyber sclyber. It's CRAP.
I can't live without mine. I have to have one for work and definitely for personal use. Sometimes I use it to post here in the forums if I'm not near a computer or don't have my laptop with me. My cell phone is a necessity, I wouldn't want to be without it.
I get what you mean. I really do. But a microwave oven is not a cell phone that is being used when a "talk in person" is available, and would be more heart-warming. (Yes, we all pick and choose our tools and toys! You are correct).

Oh I get that, they have created a rude generation alright, I make my children put their phones in the cupboard during mealtimes :) and dont get me started on text speak becoming part of everyday writing.
