there is no such beast
since reagan's babbling in 1984, there is supposed to be markets driven by consumer demand, then America fully backed the Hunt Brothers by flooding the world Gold market in opening Fortknox and pouring American Gold reserves onto the Gold Market, pushing Gold down from around US$920 per oz to US$150, ending any chance of a level playing field cause America simply repurchased Gold at US$150 something.
Then cut loose the idiot unregulated banking sector (welcome to derivative)
Since then World Bank has been discounting Gold purchases by third world nations and individual countries Reserve Banks like the Australian Reserve Bank have been playing mind games with the countries monetary supply. While governments like the Australian, sold off to there rich mates publicly owned utilities across the board.

In short Free Market is a fallacy

The market is a democracy in which every penny gives a right to vote. It is true that the various individuals have not the same power to vote. The richer man ...casts more ballots than the poorer fellow. But to be rich and to earn a higher income is, in the market economy, already the outcome of the previous election. The only means to acquire wealth and to preserve it, in a market economy not adulterated by government-made privileges and restrictions, is to serve the consumers in the best and cheapest way. Capitalists and landowners who fail in this regard suffer losses. If they do not change their procedure, they lose their wealth and become poor. It is the consumers who make poor people rich and rich people poor." --Ludwig von Mises

Then Government goes and screws it all up with Cronyism!

A Government steered "Free Market" is definitely a Fallacy!

Fascism should rightly be called Corporatism, as it is the merger of corporate and government power." Benito Mussolini

In resource-rich environments where the pie is ever-expanding then yes it is. However, where wealth and growth are limited by practical realities then greater thought has to be given to how wealth is distributed to avoid concentrating wealth into too few hands and denying the poor/young the right to pursue opportunity.

I don't see how anyone can think that a free market exists looking back on the past few years. Be greedy and make yourself too big to fail to qualify for massive government handouts. conversing
