Nothing wrong by our standards here in what we call the great NorthWest. Portland and surrounding areas. I remember taking the long way home late at night with our selves glowing a bit more than the indoor outdoor lights. We came upon a home that had plastic babies poping up as though someone had spread the seeds all over the entire front yard all the way to the walk. It was a kind of surrealistic feeling and obvious that someone or someones had taken a lot of time and energy to fill the yard with all the plastic babies. We laughed quite a long time after that. There were other themes going on in that area as well but that one stuck in my head. Down the street from where I live now there is a unique program going where they have decorated the pavement with many colors and placed a area to the side where people fix food and drink for people passing by. it is different. I have gotten used to things like this though over the years so it is no big deal.....just a nice feeling of trust. I have lights outside of my place as well. red and blue by the salon and then brighter colors that surround a framed painted glass with what might be a circle of colorful fishes.
We're a strange nation. We're either wonderfully and weirdly individual or incredibly uniform slogan-shouters or proles - with little middle ground.
And this newfound, modern sense of feigned and insisted upon individualism where you are an individual even if you've never been/done/said/thought anything original in your life seems to be killing off the last of the eccentrics.

Tomcats2: it made me laugh and i love eccentrics they bring a different out look to the world that can only be a good thing in my opinion morning jacs
Morning Tom.
Do we have more tolerance to eccentrics in our culture, therefore we have more eccentrics?
I once hoiked a standard lamp out of a skip because it was so hideous, every time I saw it it made me laugh. I knocked on the door of my neighbour and asked before nabbing it. He said that it wasn't his, it had been dumped there illegally/impolitely and I was welcome to it. I think he thought I was somewhat eccentric (this is not a not uncommon perception of me), but I later realised who it had originally belonged to, she'd just passed away and I'm rather pleased to have the keepsake. She was a lovely women, albeit one with crashingly bad taste.

That puts me in mind of a piece of art I once saw in the Centre Pompidou in about 1978 which was like a strange market stall with bits of plastic baby doll hanging off it, amongst other things.
My penfriend's parents were obviously a bit embarrassed about the impression I might develop of the French as I stared at it agog, but I assured them I liked it. They ushered me away all the same.

Harmful or harmless nothing wrong with the oweners if they so wished to keep their Christmas decoration as long as they like. Its unusual and eccentric at the same time, having still Christmas Decoration after nearly 5 months.Maybe something has happened to the inhabitants of the house,or nothing has happened to them, and they wish to keep their Christmas decoration out of eccentricity. Finding out if there is activity inside the house, will solve the mystery,if there is any mystery.

Tom said in his OP the Christmas lights were on, suggesting the place was inhabited. You said:

Why do you think there is something 'wrong' with them, if its harmless? Or could it be harmful in some way?
Just curious about our perceptions of 'wrongness'.
The Christmas lights were on,but why they were on???? Are they the oweners inside alive. If you pass the house every day,and you find the lights on every day, including the Christmas decoration, then as responsible citizen, simply you inform the police.Nothing "wrong' informing the police, even if the owers are alive inside. The "wrong' thing is not to inform the police.

That's brilliant!
If the inhabitant had been dead since Christmas with the lights left on, I think someone would have cottoned on by May, either because of the smell of the decomposing body, or the smell of the house burning down.
In this culture I think the police would find you eccentric, Chris.
If you have noticed for first time, the lights burning in May this year consecutive for a few days, and the Christmas decoration on, why do you find it funny informing the police.????

Is having xmas lights on all year long eccentric?? oh dear, I don't call meself eccentric. Lazy maybe when it comes to things like that. With my daughter's birthday party a few months back I used the same decoration from the previous year, it was and is still up. And next month is another birthday...

Because if it wasn't British eccentricity, the inhabitant will have been dead for five months, it would smell from hear to kingdom come so you'd know, or the house will have burnt down so you'd know.
I think perhaps the Greeks and the Brits find each other a little bonkers at times.
