Micky, having met you, I would not call you "fat." You may be carrying a little bit more weight "for a diabetic" but some of us do - I watch what I eat and know what I should not be eating but when I go out, I do tend to spoil myself when I am out and eat stuff that I would not normally eat. That is my treat.

But day to day is different. I usually try to keep a routine with my meals. Today is a total muckup. Breakfast at 7.00am but lunch was at 1.30pm. And I did notice that it was impacting on me. And I haven't had dinner yet which is a bit naughty but after a late lunch, not so bad.

Until you can settle your sugars levels down, you need to watch what you eat and when you eat. And your monitoring will help in setting your routine. Monitor your intake as well as your sugar levels.

I love coffee. My doctor was telling me my levels were a bit high and I should check my levels more often. I noticed that my Flat White coffee (on its own and nothing else) was upping my sugars - to do with the fat content of milk. Did not happen when I made my own coffee at home as I only put a little bit in at home...... but at the shops, they have 70-80% milk in the coffee. Have changed to Long Machiato coffee and reduced the levels.

Blood pressure is a problem with diabetics who do have weight problems, and that means too much weight or too little weight.

There is a small-in-size booklet ("Calorie Counter) by a guy from Perth (Polish name) available from chemists about dieting and the Calorie Count, Salt Content, Fat Content and at times the Carbohydrate Count (hard to find this version) of various foods and the portions referred to. Worth getting hold of with the "Carbohydrate Counter" included. Could give you a better understanding of what is happening with your diet and the diabetes.

Main thing is to avoid foods with a "fat" content. I do love my pastries, but they are not so good for diabetics.

Yep thanks Wash
Melbourne was not normal for me and that huge cake I ate was for one reason only .I new I'd fall asleep as soon as I stopped .As I wasn't sleeping as normal.

Now we aren't certain its diabetes . My last fasting test was 6.2
Having said that im not 100 it hasn't turned into type 1

This week I've had 3 ecg's and an echocardio thingee. And an old enemy has come back my ventricle's have started to thicken a lot again!!
The ecgs were normal
My BP couple of weeks back went upto 180 over 110
Since then its been just under that!!
Oh and as I said before I don't sleep well . And its like 1 or 2 hours sleep then pee and repeat until 4.45am
And I urinate so often
Yep
So is it my diabetes or something else Doctors don't know yet !!!
Meanwhile I'm thinking this large bottle will be to small rolling on the floor laughing

Peeing a lot is a "normal" diabetic sympton. Part of the "flushing out of sugars in the system." Early testing was to hold the "dipstick" when peeing. It has become a bit more refined since then the 70s. It looks at what is contained within the bloodflow which will impact on your overall health. And with more refined methods of evaluation these days, doctors, do not look at the "instaneaous" tests but what you have done over a period.

I can do a test myself (or when I see my doctor) and the reading will be 10-14 when that test is done. But my "average" over the preceeding 2 weeks will be down around 7, according to my blood test.

I was diagnosed over 30 years ago as being diabetic. Along with my father, mother, brother and sister at that time. My parents have since passed on but my brother (married to a registered nurse who has a Masters in Nursing and is a Uni Lecturer) has problems. My sister (also a Registered Nurse) has not discussed this with me but...

Look at your diet. Use the internet to try and understand diabetes and all of its ramifications. And then it is up to you to decide how you will deal with it.

You have to realise that all this "Healthiness" of drinking 15 gallons of water every day will have other impacts on your body.

wash2u: Micky, I am probably one of the "lucky" ones where my diagnosis was at a younger age. I have had more than 30 years to learn all the stuff. "Lucky" because I did change my diet at an early onset.

This has meant that my cholestoral levels are at a surprisingly low level for someone my age. Okay, suffered some kidney and bladder problems when I was 17 and meant that Mum had to change my diet to reduce the "fat" content. Then, it meant lean meat. But that has also helped along the way before being diagnosed diabetic.

I do put up here what I have been through only because I want people to realise what can happen with the "easy" foods. And the doctors and dieticians do not realise the upbringings we have where we have "learnt" what the good foods are.

It is very hard to do the changes. I have had a lot of years to learn how to do the most reasonable best for me.

Me bad wash I did change me eating habits .Seem they have slipped backwards at times .Not always or everyday but sometimes .
My weight well I think I know its gone up but the weight the professionals want me to be at is a wee bit unrealistic .All be it when ever I asked they wouldn't tell me except lose 40 to 50 kilos.

My problem is exercise get home from manual labour and the knee is or can be hard to walk on .Back plays up both have arthritis . And I have stopped eating extras at work back to just a cup of soup bread 2 pieces of fruit and a diet drink!

Now saying that I am concerned re my back personally don't think its the arthritis panadol osteo dosent seem to be working . Especially with kidney tests next week and sometime after that a liver test !!!

And one shouldn't look up stuff like Lupus on the net!! I've looked at the photo's of mild lupus rash looked like me flushed and the flush on my arms and legs .More serious rash was like my ankles after they had swelled up when my bp was 180 over 110 !!

Seriously is it just my diabetes my thickened Heart ventricles !! Or is there something else going on !!!

Micky, you do have to realise that havings diabetes does not mean you have to cut out ALL sugar-related foods.

You have to realise that there are many other health-related issuses that d need to be dealt with and not just one.

In our later years, a few problems do become apparent. Diabetes is one. Cholestestrol is another. Not all are related but controlling one may impact on another. I do not have a pronlem with Cholestestrol so the higher protein, poly-unstaurated fats do not affect me.

Micky, one of the most important things you need is to record what you intake over a long period and to see what the doctors see as those impacts on you personally.

Okay, the Melb Meet was an exception where you could indulge in things you would not normally have (okay, what I would not normally have).

It is a learning curve and only you will find what is best for you in the long term.
