In its latest warning - issued at 1:08pm - the CFS said the fire was continuing to burn in inaccessible areas and was expanding in a northerly, easterly, westerly and southerly direction.
It warned people in the victinity of the fire - burning near Cherryville, Marble Hill and Basket Range - needed to activate their emergency survival plans.

CFS advises that a serious bushfire is burning out of control at CHERRYVILLE IN THE MOUNT LOFTY RANGES near MERCHANTS RD, WYES RD, HUNTERS RD, KNOTS HILL RD, BLOCKERS, ROAD AND CHERRYVILLE RD'S.
The CHERRYVILLE fire is travelling in a WESTERLY THROUGH TO SOUTHERLY direction towards CHERRYVILLE AND BASKET RANGE. THE FIRE IS CURRENTLY IMPACTING CHERRYVILLE RD, WYES RD, MERCHANT RD, AND BLOCKERS RD'S. There is a risk to lives and homes.
The uncontrolled fire is burning in Scrub.
Check and follow your bushfire survival plan. Take shelter when the fire arrives and protect yourself from the fires heat.
Only leave now if the path is clear to a safe place.
You should not enter this area as the roads may not be safe.

My great-uncle had a contract to build his house that specified that the works "will be completed by...." Now this is back in the 1960s so may not be relevant to today. The property owner wanted changes done "I now want ....materials, not ..... those specified in the contract."

The worst part is not knowing what is happening. ABC Radio is still the best source of information. The Govt does take this over as more people can access ABC than any other broadcaster
