I come here to chat..nothing more. I don't seek any attention.
I mean this is a single's site so I'm assuming people come here to find people. In order to find people there is a degree of turning on the charm. So perhaps it's just getting to know people and not seeking attention.

Are you lonely then?
Do people seek attention by going out to dinner with friends because they are lonely? Or because they would be lonely without friends?
Are people who go out to dinner with friends less lonely than people who socialise on the internet?
Are people who socialise on the internet inferior for not going out to dinner?

Firstly, many people are going to be too vain to admit that they are doing this. The overblown and fragile ego will never admit that it needs anything.
Personally, I suppose I need somewhere to go where I can talk about the things that matter to me - politics, the future of civilisation etc.. as cool people of my age in this country are not at all interested in debating these things.

Food and shelter are needs, none of us would die without chatting on the forums, I don't think.
It may fulfil emotional, or intellectual wants, or desires.
And it can be fun.
Personally, I learned loads from the international forums. I've evolved a lot in all sorts of unexpected ways because it can be a good source of inspiration, as well as gaining knowledge from others.
It can take me hours to pop down to the shops sometimes as there's often plenty of people about in the village to talk to, but here there's a wider pool of knowledge, culture and experience here.
I can dip in and out of socialising on the internet according to when I need to do things and when I can take a break. I work from home, so it fills a gap where others might have contact with work colleagues.
