A few months back I mentioned that while out walking, a neighbour's dog flew out and bit me.

At the time, in order not to cause disharmony and give the owner the benefit of the doubt, I didn't report the incident to council but spoke with the owner myself who was very apologetic - I walked away thinking that the matter was resolved and the dog would be secured (he lifts the gate latch with his snout).

It put fear into me though, and I now walk on the opposite side of the street, particularly when walking my little dog. I glance across to see if the brick (apparently the solution) which they put against the gate is there.

The last couple of weeks it hasn't been and I've been feeling trepidation when walking past so of course today when walking with my dog the bloody thing flew out and tried to go me again.

I shrieked, picked up my dog and a handy big stick and flailed it wildly at the dog - the owner called it back which is when I said "When are you going to secure this dog??!!"

He crapped on about the dog seeming to have a dislike of me/my dog .. doh .. it turned into a shouting match when I said your dog has already bitten me!! Does it have to happen again?? It's your responsibility, secure the gate it can't be that hard!!!

He responded by shouting Look I'm trying to be nice here and explain! Ahhh, go away!

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGHH!!

Jerk!! Serene is now on a mission, hello ranger mumbling

Why do people not take responsibility for their animals and how many times must these things be reported as had already happened prior to that poor man being savaged by those three dogs just the other day doh doh

Hi Serene, wave

Sorry that you had to go thru that again... but really, its up to you now...

that dog probably attacks so very many others, and maybe those others are more vulnerable, and cant pick up a stick??

So, just report that man... he needs to be a responsible owner..

Thanks curly hug

Yes I'm doing that, and I now regret not reporting the first incident.

Sometimes it doesn't pay to be nice eh.

At least it didn't get to attack me this time but it's the owner's arrogance and excuses that really peed me off - feel like beating him about the head with a stick lol.

I can't be cruel to animals lookin sigh It's not the dog's fault it hates me lol.

I'm already trying to think up ways of keeping THREE ginger cats out of my house who sneak in when I'm not looking and eat my dog's food doh

I leave the back door open a little so he can get out to pee - this morning I got home from shopping to find that the cooked chicken I was thawing out on the bench had disappeared!

It was in a plastic container .. with gladwrap over it...

Yep agree with all of the above - the owner is at fault and he has already had one chance and doesn't seem to be taking his responsibilities as a pet owner seriously.

There have been a couple of serious incidencies reported recently where people have been attacked by dogs and it would be worrying.

Children don't stand a chance, that's what really concerns me newie uh oh

There often seems to be a "Oh well, we'll see, she'll be right mate" attitude by a lot of these owners.

Then something devastating happens..

That poor man who was savaged by those dogs the other day will be traumatised for a long time, as will those who witnessed the attack and tried to help him.

Racking my brain to come up with an idea that will deter the cats but not affect the dog confused

They're so sneaky, occasionally I catch a glimpse of one coming in so I thought..

Water pistol! lightbulb

Trouble is, they mostly come in when I'm not around grrr

when my girl was attacked a couple of years ago I took 50% of the blame because I didnt have her on a lead. She was under control and was actually returning to me after being called back when she was grabbed.

but I was in the wrong so I took my part of the blame.

It is sad to see animals locked in yards, not getting out for walks, just another possession. A great idea at the time to buy a pup etc but the reality is way different from that cute little bundle of fluff.
Because they are locked in yards the animals arent socialised and dont know how to behave, and usually are aggressive as they are unsure of where they stand.
