A_Non_A_Moose: Thanks! Great video of a spectacular free-climb! Very impressive indeed! And what of the camera crew?!!!! Totally amazing,....climbing and filming!
The camera crew would be professional abseilers (rappellers) and cameramen, a growing industry these days.

Isn't that the truth!! As I watch all of the totally amazing productions appearing these days and find myself getting lost in the grandeur of the experienece, I sometimes take a moment to reflect upon the fact that there is a crew, unseen, capturing all of these moments!
bodleing: She starts the solo climb of the Diamond around 1.40 into the vid.
Almost too scary to watch...
That is a great video, thanks for sharing. I only climbed tall things when I was a lot younger. And even then it was not that of a trained climber. I fell from a overhang and luckily got caught by a piece of a tree sticking out of the cliff. But nothing like this. The part about "fear" and having to remove that from your head is so true, and I think it goes to show what strength we have or relinquish within ourselves. Good stuff bodle.

Technically solo climbing is easier than roped (protected) climbing, but of course physcologically far more demanding. To physically climb a route as long and sustained as this is an achievement in itself, but to climb it unprotected is really something else. It was in fact her fourth solo ascent of that route.

I did not know that, about solo versus roped. And I have never done any true roped climbing. Even the cliffs and objects I climbed so long ago were more of a way of life for me back then and no way was I ever something like she, or the other one I see in the movies is Tom Cruise as he climbed up that building in Ghost Protocol. LOL. but It gives a chill just watching her go up that Diamond. I was thinking that if I needed to do that to get my thoughts clear I would be in a world of mess. LOL.

With roped (protected) climbing apart from the weight and drag of up to 50m of rope to pull up behind you, there is the extra weight of all the 'gear' you will have strapped around your waist. Also you have to stop often to place protection which can be extremely tiring as you have to have one hand free to select the correct piece of gear for the situation. If however you are climbing bolted routes as opposed to traditional (natural) routes then you just have to clip the ready placed bolts...this is somewhat easier than traditional routes but placing bolts on most crags in the uk is very much frowned upon. So, apart from the physcological aspect, free climbing is physically less demanding...but leaves absolutely no room for error...
