"The Stevens-fronted INXS released a song in 2003 called "I Get Up," but he quit the band in October of that year before an album was released. Stevens explained in a May 2009 interview that his departure from the band was due to a creative lull:After 3½ years I'd had enough - the creativity was too slow. I had too much going on with my own stuff and I just said, "No". No need to be going away for months on end, away from home, away from family. It's hard to justify it when you're just playing other people's songs."I recall seeing him fronting INXS at the time, my daughter and I were huge fans of the band and were almost reluctant to go as we were staunch Michael Hutchence fans and devastated about his death.
Tough, loyal audience but Jon Stevens raised the roof, brought a tear and with that, brought the house down.
Got my CD cover signed at the end, but JS declined signing it as it was 'other peoples' music'.
After MHs death, there was a lot of pressure on INXS to "reform." In 2001, my girlfriend of the time was a good friend with one of the band and told me about the pressure they had to reform and they were getting very pressured into it. I had "known" them from their pub-days around Sydney.
After Freddy Mercury died, I could not believe Queen would ever do anything again. They got in some singer to front the band. Being a Queen fan, I said "Never." But he was very good doing Freddies songs.
MH was a major part of the band.
Trouble is that MH & FM were what people expect from a band. Not some stand-in who is probably as great a singer.
But back to has-beens still doing the rounds. 40 years later and I still enjoy the performances of Russell Morris and Company doing the pub-circuits. Some people never lose their touch unlike bands where fans expect so much from the "passed away" lead singer.
