More than 45000 people died within seconds, around 70000 in total and the same amount again injured and mutilated.
WW2 last major act, its final master piece.
Right or wrong, does it matter?
No lessons have been learned.
Butchery will continue until there is no one left to fight.
But let's all grab our holy books and raise our flag and keep marching on in search of true love.
Peaceful jolly bunch we all are.

Good luck to you, and you as well.
But not you, or you.

There must be something in my coffee these days... his head keeps moving slightly....

but yeah

RIP to those in Nag/Hir. They didn't need to die. 1 bomb in Tokyo Bay would have ended it within the hour. dunno

Or the Soviet invasion for that matter... But the point wasn't to end the war

MD, if you know your history about this subject one bomb didn't do it when they bombed Hiroshima. The Japanese continued their war and we had to do it again in Nagasaki. It's the second bomb that ended the war.

WWII was very different from the mass bombings that have gone on in the last 12 years against terrorism. Unfortunately the United States will always be marred for those bombings in WWII.

Terrible business, just terrible. And not even a race of super mutants or Godzilla to show for it. Such a senseless waste of life.

I know my history... more than most that would claim. And I know the machinations that went on behind the scenes... how the hawks within the Japanese hierarchy were going to silence the Emperor.

One of the things about NOT dropping the bomb near the centre of power was communication issues.. with much of the leadership in denial and confusion.

Dropping it in Tokyo bay would have left NO-one in the leadership in any doubt what would have happened next.

Dear Monte, the history they teach at school is total BS. Do your own research (beyond wikipedia)

1945's raid on Tokyo is the single most destructive bombing in history.
Around 100000 people died in the raid.
Indeed, an atomic bomb on Tokyo bay sounds so much more 'sane'.
The whole malarkey is utter insanity and still we try and give it all a sane spin.
I don't care what would have been the most effective way to inflict most damage.
It is insanity, full stop.
But maybe it was for a 'just cause' ? Who knows. Maybe there is some thing like a 'just war'. It is easy to believe, a cause.
But every time I think, 'yes, that's a justified response' something else tells me it is the same lunacy under a different name.
And the wheel keeps turning and nothing fundamentally changes.

Uncle Joe? I'm sure Uncle Joe and friends would know what it meant. There would have been no reason to doubt it's power.

talking about Joe Stalin!
Soviet Union was,'t at War with Japan at that time!
But wanted those Islands, which Russia lost in 1905 so bad he could taste it!
So he simply forgot to tell the US that Japan might be ready to talk Terms!
He knew very well that a new Weapon was in the offing, probably even knew the Type!

yep,Hindsight is always 20/20!
Doubt though that one A-Bomb over Tokyo-Bay would have done the Job!

You failed to mention that on Sunday, 7 December 1941, Japan started the whole mess. We just decided that a protracted war with the loss of untold American lives was not the path to follow so Harry made the right decision and ended it. Case closed.

First, ”untold” is BS.
Second, the available evidence supports the view that Pearl harbor wasn't a surprise attack.

I did not fail to mention.
As I said,
Right or wrong, does it matter?
No lessons have been learned.

Also,
The whole malarkey is utter insanity and still we try and give it all a sane spin.

I'm trying to get my head around the concept of a just war.
I find the justification for wars easy.
But it is insane, war.
And I find justification for insanity so damn hard to grasp.

That's for me what this thread is about.

WORLD WARS I AND II HAD A HIDDEN PURPOSE
World Wars I and II were fake.
Both sides were secretly being run by the same people with the same goal.Over 100 million people died for a completely different reason than they thought. Both sides fighting these wars Axis and Allies were owned and controlled by the same international bankers. That is the great, ugly truth .
These world wars were used to plunder central banks and private holdings of their gold worldwide and turn them over to the Federal Reserve. The mass seizures of gold occurred before, during and after World War I as well.
THE BOLSHEVIK REVOLUTION, CREATING THE USSR IN 1917, WAS A FEDERAL RESERVE PROJECT

Maybe this is true in your mind and easy for you to say. After all, you didn't have much of a dog in that war.
