6 weeks away from radio, tv, newspapers, internet and traffic - got stuck in a traffic snarl getting onto the Bolte Bridge (30 mins to do 5km). Turned the radio on while stuck and it was either politics, football or innane chatter about the music they "will be playing shortly."

I have been to been floating around between Texas & Innaminka during that time with temps in the mid 20s every day. And no rain or winds, only breezes when they were needed.

Is it good to be home? Too early to tell. Need to unpack (tomorrow), take some more "chill pills" and relax. And then check out the 850 emails waiting.

Son-in-law did some shopping for me......toilet paper, bread, milk, cheese, ham and a Turkish Delight. He does know how to suck up.peace

Welcome back Wash. Yeah that's a real bottleneck from the Tulla onto the Bolte. No sooner built than it's too small.

Home is fine, my daughter did call in a few times so it didn't get lonely. And did manage to close and lock the back door. Although panicked when a light turned itself onrolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing Forgot to tell her about that. She drops a girl from work off nearby and checks the place just in case I decided to come home. She misses Tuesday dinners.

And not stale as the 8 windows that have been open for the last 8/9 years are still open.

And Obs, I did try to time coming back to miss peak traffic...hit Flemington at 6.30pm and everyone heading to the SE had the same idea...3 lanes into 1 on the Bolte.frustrated frustrated

Had the same stupid idea of shooting up the outer lanes except I had a camper on the back (bloody hard to see passed it) and a trailer.

Looking forward to my real bed tonight. 6 foot camper beds are not the greatest when you are 6'3"dunno frustrated

welcome back Wash and I hope you enjoyed your bed last night.

It is always the small luxuries we miss the most.

And you should have maybe waited to come back to the real world for a few more weeks, and missed the electioneering that will be in our faces until at least 7th Sept...
and then the rundown after itmoping

It would be great to see some photos, nudge nudgegrin

Just reading this morning about the horse races at Betoota, Bedourie and Birdsville coming up - starting next weekend, I think. Maybe I should have stayed away a bit longer and missed all the politicking. Don't think Birdsville Polling Booth would be able to handle the 6,000 absentee voters.

Photos may take a while, can't seem to get into Photobucket yet. Computer seems to have gone on holidays while I have been away.dunno

My bed at home is great, it is longer than mebanana I bought a slide-on camper the week before I left and it is only 6 foot wide = short bed. But great to get out of the rain. Had 20 drops at Brewarrina and 4 drops at Louth.

All but 1 of my trips over the last 20 years have been in a swag - just pull out a tarp if it looks like rain. 6 week trip last year was swagging it for 3 weeks while travelling in mates' Defender. Rest of the time I had my Discovery and slept in it. But only 6 foot long and so had the rear door open except for the one night it rained. Just pull the door shut and snug as a bug in a rug.

I used to have a series 1 and it was better to sleep in than my 111 on account of the later models curved doors . Slept in or under them many times .

Got a new laptop to take away with me for my 6 week holiday. Used it twice. And the phone 4 times - my daughter wanted to know if I was ever coming back and wanted to know if she could sell the house. help

Told her it was okay only if she could find me a smaller house with mucho larger sheds for all my stuff. At least she didn't change the locks on me while I was away.laugh

not sure when you can vote an an Electoral Office. I know that is how I will be voting again this time, much better than having to run the gauntlet of all the spruikers on polling day.

Glad you enjoyed your bed wave

and the computer is jealous... you have brought an intruder/contender into the house.. it feels threatened!

Glad to hear you had a good trip Wash, does you good to just get back to basics but I have to say a swag is a bit too basic for me, snakes and all that creepy crawly stuff wow

Not sure if I could hack all that? confused

Swags are very warm to sleep in. And snakes won't go near people so not a problem. Crocs are a different issue - packaged foodrolling on the floor laughing

Like most of my time away, I had time out. Time to sit and chill out. Enjoyed being away from the "Madding Crowd" but do realise I do need to be a bit more sociallable.

Love Innaminka, worked up in the area many times. Do they still have the Sunday roasts out the back at Outtaminka. Had some good times there many years ago.

Cheers, Dave...

Innaminka has changed a lot since I last stopped there. The feed were great. But seems to be on the "Tourist Trail" these days. Steaks are bit smaller than the plate nowadays. And the dirt floor is now quarry-tiled.

Just opened up the $105 bill for the donga. But I feel it was worth spent for the shower and a bed longer than me.
