I think it's more to do with the type of person you are and your personality.

no, if anything, its getting easier to meet and make new and lasting friendships....funny, its all taken off since i lost my job...go figure!...

I don't know about friends Jazz, but definitely acquaintances or people to socialise with.
When I moved to Ireland 8 years ago I didn't know anyone and ended up in a big social group, great time, made lots of friends (nearly all my close friends I still have are from that time) and had a hectic social life.
Normal development, people marry, move on etc. I moved places and it's not as easy to get to know people here as it was a couple of years ago. But it does happen, I joined a club, met a nice group and having a good social life again, but it's just different compared to when I was younger.

yeah some amount of blackberries this year..I picked 10 pounds of them over the past 2 weeks..from the same bush in my garden..some of them were the size of strawberries..I've them all frozen now and I'll make jam out of them in a few weeks
a tree full of blackcurrents, and im back to work, where will i find the time top pick them?....can i freeze them and jam them later?....(its not music, so i dont know)...

freeze them for sure
and you can make lovely blackberry crumble too
I love that because it is so easy to make and you don't have to dirty the kitchen table rolling out the pastry like you do for a pie

people need something big in common (esp the harder types who hate admitting they would like a few new friends) and the making friends bit has to seem almost accidental to them or their now weirdos if they seek friendships..
its very typical of irish culture..to not admit and hate feeling weak and in need of people.

Its nice to know some people still have allotments and keep them upto date. I live in the countryside and my neighbours see me picking blackberries and frown....go figue
