Obama says he is going to attack targets in Syria in the coming days. He says it will not be an 'open ended' attack and there will be no 'boots on the ground' but is that possible? Russia has already said it will retaliate, as have Iran and Hezbollah. When the Hezbollah rockets and incursions start into northern Isreal the Israeli's will fire in all directions, Hamas and Islamic Jihad will take advantage of Israel's weakness and rise from Gaza, the West Bank and inside Jerusalem. The Iranians will close the Straits of Hormuz, severly reducing world oil supply and all Russian pipelines into Europe will be closed. And so on and so on.

Putin, Ahmedinejad, Hizbollah and Assad may just take the slap on the face from the Peace Prize winner but I don't think so. If I were Obama in a dance hall and I saw Assad across the floor with Putin, Ahmedinejad and Hezbollah I wouldn't send my guys over to slap him on the face and think that they could walk away without getting a few clips back. But then I'm not a Nobel peace prize winner, so what do I know.

These Russian vessels are now off the coast of Israel

MADDOG69: Boris Berezovsky once said that Putin was the only man in Russia that he couldn't bribe. And he could bribe anyone. And this was when he was the Mayor's helper long before he hit it big.

Unfortunately for Berezovsky wink

That was a nasty 'accident' he had last March

I have been following that war in Syria now for a while and a lot of it dosent make sense, why would the Syrian government use chemical weapons when the y know inspectors are coming and also while winning the war then launch a chemical attack knowing full well it could get the west involved , it dosent add up, the Syrian people get free health care and education. I am not saying Assad is an angel hes family built the country up and he dosent have complete power and while the rebels are financed by the Saudis and the west to which if they get into power will be another opressive Islamic state it makes you wonder why there backing them up, or would it be the jews in Israel and the U.S.A feeling threatend by Iran and by removing Syria or taking over the people and turning them into good tax payers would leave Iran without a buddy and wide open to invasion. The Russians have supplied Syria with the top of the range anti aircraft misiles so yanks will have lots of casualties .

I think Obama wants to end America's dependence on oil and what better way than doing that by driving up the price of it through scarcity.

I don't think that oil is really worth fighting over and within in my own lifetime expect electric cars to become the norm, electric aircraft to be used for short haul flights, and the first nuclear fusion power plant to become economically viable. In short the internal combustion engine will head the way of the steam engine.

The one thing that Obama means "no boots on the ground" is that this military action is predict going to be another demonstration of Americas prowess in in technology. It won't just be the their advanced stealth fighter/bombers like the F22 that will be shown off. I expect UCAV like the X-47b and Excalibur and the Swords program will play a much more significant role here. I think Obama is going to approach this conflict with the aim of to not lose one American life to it.

As far as the Israel being weak- they have one of the best trained and equipped military forces in the world and lets not forget that about half of the population in Israel have served in it. Anyone who invades it is going to have their work cut out.

But America's most powerful weapon - is cultural and social reform, the ideals of democracy, liberty and freedom which caused a spate of revolutions in eastern Europe in the late 80's/early 90's are now the same thing that are driving the Arab Spring movement- Tunisia, Egypt, Yemen and Libya.

I realize that all of this makes me sound pro-american and pro-war but believe me I'm not, I just think that this conflict is going to vastly unmatched, short and something of PR exercise for america's military and technology.

A lot of good points there Dave and I agree with you on a lot of it. Israel is militarily weak in my opinion. Their citizenry are soft and not willing to fight. They have been made soft with the yearly billions that are stolen from the US taxpayer and given to them by the pro-Zionist US government. They rely on 'Iron Dome' and new technology. We saw in 2006 how they invaded Lebanon and came away with nothing they wanted. In 2008 they tried it again and Hezbollah drove them back into Israel. They are surrounded on all sides and they have the condensed refugee camps dotted inside their swolen/stolen country.

And yet there they stomp like General Custer the night before the battle of Little Bighorn.

Does the film 'The Omen' ring any bells?
Our destruction hangs in the balance because it will happen. Perhaps there will be a 'Sign' or a visit from 'Aliens' that will halt the inevitable.
Just an old farts thoughts grin

I don't think the Kremlin and the Pentagon are waiting by the red phone to hear whose side we're going to choose Pedro. I'm just going to have a nice cup of tea and watch it all on the 'puter laugh

mjpd67: petrol hike on the way so

It would seem so. Anytime the Iranians close Hormuz it's always the same. Also, the Libyan al Qaida rats are fighting over the spoils and their production has fallen from 1.5 million barrels a day in 2012 to 150,000 this week. That's bound to effect the price of everything because everything depends on the price of fuel. Just as well the government did away with the consumer price index when prices began to skyrocket.

About 2 months. Also couple of days ago some Muslim Brotherhood guys tried to attack a Chinese Cargo ship in the Suez... was foiled by security services... that puts up the price aswell.
