I worked under a contract for 12 to do a 38 hour week. The Coordinator would have a downer when I said "Here are my hours" and he would have to pay even though he demanded the extra hours I worked.

When I did become permanent and it was a condition for 1 RDO day off each month, he turned around and said "You have time out for smoking (he was very anti-smoking). Why should I approve this?"

Okay, knucklehead, I start work before 9am each day, work until at least 6pm each day while your "pet" is on the Internet every day looking at the soccer results from around the world and is only here from 8.30am-5.00pm. And on the few days you approve overtime, he is sitting there going through the soccer results for the 8 hours he claims. Meanwhile, I come in and do only 6 hours on the Saturday because I have done my work and want a life outside of working.

My output is at least 1/2 again more than anyone out of this office that you favour (was another guy who actually did another decent day's work).

If you don't like the way I do manage to achieve the high outcomes you demand and I have achieved, I am happy to leave.

I did manage in the cramped office conditions he put me in after that outburst. 3 staff under me, smallest desk of everyone where I had to roll out development plans for approval that would not fit on my desk.

Sorry Micky, I was in a position where I could change my employment. Not saying you have that choice.

Some of us are lucky enough to be able do this. I have worked for many, many years where I did not think this was a possibilty.

I am in a position now where I do not have to take this crap and have made my choice. I do miss the structured regime of working. I do not miss the day to day crap you have to put up with.

I did that Merri enjoyed my night out even had a vodka .

Re my work I was just stunned that they were trying to talk me out of my RDO as I had Thursday off why do you want Friday the following week as well rolling on the floor laughing .And yes with over 23 hours I had time to cover both days
And I found out they did the same to a co worker who agreed not to have today off !!
Don't get me started on TOIL I was doing that until I worked out everytime I asked if I could use the TOIL i had accrued the answer was we are to busy . I asked two weeks ago about the 0.08 TOIL I had left on my pay list how much it was and if I could take it . I think its like 10 mins or less !! Unless you have a brown nose its very hard to use your toil doh
Boils down to bad management but what would I know rolling on the floor laughing

I had a moment re my work
We all switch our brains off at the door . But I also worked out if I do everything Im told like a good little soldier the days go faster !!!!
When you do this you can see clearly who does very little who complains non stop and how the people in charge shouldn't be rolling on the floor laughing

Hi Micky..

Just reading thru... I know you might not agree with me.. but for me.. at my work... we do not get toil... some people are allowed to get RDO's and some are not..

I don't want variable hours... I just do the 9-5... and leave it at that..

But very very often , I do many more hours than I should.. because I want to finish off stuff... and I never mind..
I prefer to know that I have completed my work..

The other side of the coin is... I sometimes rock up late... all depends on traffic etc... and nothing is ever said..

so , its give some, take some... but I don't mind staying back for free, because it means that I can finish off what I want ... its a pride thingo for me...

But, it's a very different job that I do to you.. I understand that... wave

I did that for many years. The traffic would be bad getting to work but would do some extra time to make up for it. More than was expected. Moved on from that in later work.

But when you work from 8am to 7.30pm and say "enough is enough" to a Director, he does not like it when he has 5 mins to drive home compared to 45 minutes.

I have always had pride in doing my job for "my community." but there are limitations in that.

Am I responsible for decisions made by others? NO

Reason why I have stopped working.

yep its in the award and EBA that we get paid for 38 hours a week

Which to break it down means I work 40 hrs a week not including overtime . The company holds back 2 hours wages every week for 4 weeks . Then we are given our day off every 4 weeks .
What happens in reality is we get an rdo every 4 weeks or 6 weeks or 8 weeks . I went three months this year without one and last year the same as the boss was to busy to work out a list !! Which is why I spoke up and asked for one of the days owed to me.

RDOS have actually caused a huge rift between co workers . Some newer fulltime employees only work a 38 hr week and don't get rdo's . and they are like spoiled kids(yes it was thrown in my face I had yesterday off today) some are willing to work for below award rates on the weekends if they are given an RDO !!

And unlike you my dear Merri in my 19 yrs with this company never been late once . I'm always early I asked about starting early as part of my mornings duties is to get the first three rounds eskies ready for our drivers . Answer from 2 bosses was no way is anyone starting early . Yet if I walk into my workplace 15minutes early there are at least 6 people starting early !!
And I end up starting five minutes early cause I got sick of drivers ranting at me why their eskies aren't ready at 6.30 am!! And I say brother what time do you start and what time do I start answer 6.30!!

Oh those that start early get those minutes as TOIL and yep they get the time off when they ask!!

And while on overtime the other week we started at 6am . I said yes to day 1 and then no to day 2 . It was going to cause a fuss so I ended up doing day 2 . Come forward two weeks I wasn't asked didn't bother me but it turned out I was only asked as one of my coworkers doesn't drive she needed to be picked up !! She came with her normal ride this day walked in five minutes late and started work . Makes you feel needed when you learn the truth !!

But it has its lighter side . Walked in one morning last week huge hand written note on my strapping machine its broken Michael needs to fix . Seems when I go home at 3pm no one knows how to fix my strapper rolling on the floor laughing
So a mountain of things went out with tape and not strapping

That's life what ya going to do !!!
