Amongst the many reasons for blocking folks without replying -

If they obviously have not read your profile, and have written to you anyway when they plainly don't fit within the criteria you have specified - instant block.

If their profile displays any interests/lifestyle choices that definitely don't figure in your future - instant block.

If you've read their comments on the forums/in chatrooms and find them offensive or ignorant - instant block.

If the text of their message is insulting, derogatory or offensive - instant block.

There are plenty of other reasons - but these figure high on my list.

The main reason for instant blocking is that by even acknowledging a message, you encourage further interaction from folks who cannot accept No for an answer - 95% of whom retaliate with abusive and threatening behaviour more appropriate to the playground than the adult world of t'Internet. I prefer to bolt the gate before letting horses loose.

MrVirgo: Hi everyone. We're all here for an emotional purpose. PLease, please do not block someone when they email you, without at least replying first to say, "Thank you for your message, but I am looking for someone else in here" or something like that. We're all emotional people, and here willing to show our feelings and plucking up some courage to contact another. Remember we are all vulnerable, and sometimes a person can be driven more into themselves and perhaps become more miserable because they are lonely maybe and want to meet someone. Once you send the reply, and they message you again, then by all means go ahead and block them. But first, please at least be nice and then the person wont feel so bad....agreed everyone...its nice to be nice with other peoples feelings......Thank you for reading

Only ever blocked someone once, for being abusive.
But my settings automatically block cool

Agree being nice costs nothing and can mean a lot, still not easy to say thanks but no thanks in a nice way though and some people do not take kindly to a rejection no matter how nice it is.

It's a big world out there, we all have different tastes. ireland

I've wrote to many ladies both here and on other sites, I'd reckon about 40-50% didn't respond and of those only one lady ever wrote to say 'thanks for the mail, but, I'm not interested', and, that was super, nice of her to do that.

Now, whether the rest of them actually blocked me, I don't know and highly doubth it! Why would they? I wasn't abusive or creepy. Besides, I'd only know they'd blocked me if I tried mailing them again and surely that'd be coming across as a bit desperate?? Surely a 'no reply' is a reply in itself and if they don't reply then fair enough, I leave it at that.

In general if I'm not interested in someone I don't reply, my choice, I don't have to handshake

Why would someone block a person after one message, once the meassage wasnt offensive of course?

I dont agree about replying, "thanks but no thanks" I personally would find that more insulting than a simple no response, that says it all without any embarrassment for anyone.

thats how i see it too, no response is a response in itself.

there was a fella mailing me every few weeks always with the same cut and paste message with his phone number in it, I would never reply to him or even bother looking at his profile but I got sick of it and mailed him to ask him to stop and to take my lack of response as a not interested, he replies with sorry won't happen again etc and sure enough few days later same thing again so mailed him again and blocked him. wouldnt block for no reason though dunno
