It's been revealed that three Coalition MPs - Julie Bishop, Barnaby Joyce and Teresa Gambaro - claimed more than $12,000 in travel expenses to return from a lavish wedding in India where they were guests of billionaire Gina Rinehart.

I think also interesting:
Vietnam's 'Red Napoleon' Vo Nguyen Giap dies, aged 102
The Vietnamese humiliation of the French army at the battle of Dien Bien Phu in 1954 not only doomed the world's second largest colonial empire, it helped bring an end to colonialism worldwide.

Two decades later, Giap forced the retreat of the even bigger military machine of the United States from what was then South Vietnam, starting 38 years of communist rule over the country that are unbroken to this day.

Looks like they got busted this time, but how many more times do they get away with it. Not just politicians but many government departments are rife this these kinds of rorts. I personally have heard of some dooesies closer to home.

Funny how Barnaby-Joyce's name keeps coming up with these kind of things. Here's the report our taxpayers money was paying for:

But his (Barnaby-Joyce's) one-day stopover in Malaysia, on the way home from a billionaire's granddaughter's wedding in India that he attended as a guest of Gina Rinehart, was "of great assistance" in helping familiarise him with the country, wrote Mr Joyce as part of his six-page report on the trip.

Mr Joyce summarised the five main "findings/outcomes" from his visit to Malaysia as:
- Malaysia has recently experienced high levels of economic growth which has created urban cities comparable in wealth to cities in developed countries.
- Nonetheless, economic disadvantage remains in some areas, particularly rural areas.
- A key focus for Malaysian policymakers are policies which seek to increase the economic development of rural areas through targeted approaches.
- As Malaysia becomes wealthier the potential for Australia high value exports will increase, particularly of products such as beef.
- A closer dialogue between Australian politicians and Malaysian policymakers could help to foster stronger government-to-government Malay-Australian relations.

Wow wow He's very smart to have figured all that out on his own. rolling on the floor laughing

P.S. I think the last point well justifies the need to send him over there on a regular basis for more jaunts and shenanigans. conversing cheers

What do you reacon grin

It allowed arms from china to flow through its boarders into both thailand and indonesia...one day it might run free and fair elections but don't hold your breath...

Having been in Local Govt employ for many years and seen Councillors do a lot of these "Fact Finding Tours" when those that do the real work back at home, it is good that B-J can "justify" his trip in a 6 page report for the wedding to Gina that I should have been the groom.

I sat through a presentation from a first and only time Counsellor (he would not stand again) telling us about the wonderful trip he had through Europe extolling the virtues of LED public street lighting, visiting many (?) factories along the way.

And following that, I was then hit on by every LED supplier in Australia to install their product. He passed my name on.frustrated frustrated

Okay, ongoing costs are cheaper but the installation price was something we did not have the money for.frustrated

70% of Aust's cotton currently goes to China. China has 60% of the current World's cotton in storage. Aust looks at having a very good cotton crop next year. China is now considering restricting imports to support their local cotton market.

Talking with a guy out of Bourke and he said it costs about $1M to plant a crop. They are looking at $5M from each crop but actual returns are only slightly more 1 in 5 years.

We do need to keep developing out export markets, especially after the "live cattle export" fiasco which crippled a big part of our overseas income.

Mr Newman's government is drafting several pieces of legislation aimed at eliminating criminal gangs from Queensland.
Among laws being proposed is a ban on criminal bikie gang members from riding in groups of three or more.
The proposed law has drawn criticism from recreational motorcyclists, who claim they will have their hobby disrupted by police.

Meanwhile, the Abbott Government will today reveal that the Australian Crime Commission - which has the powers of a Royal Commission - will turn its attention and covert reach to the Gold Coast.

Outlaw motorcycle gang members who cannot convince the ACC that their bikes, homes and cash have been obtained legally will be targeted under new unexplained wealth laws to be introduced by the Commonwealth.

It is understood no offence will be needed for the ACC to issue a determination on unexplained wealth. Those who refuse to answer questions face being sent straight to jail.

further on, in part

"What we want to do is confiscate their money and that is a very good way of attacking criminality because the whole point in getting involved in organised crime is to make money.''

It's understood Mr Keenan's new laws will allow the ACC or the Australian Federal Police to target bikies even if they have not committed an indictable offence.
