and of course, learn to love yourself. During a break up we often hear a lot of negative things about ourselves and it can take awhile to get past those messages and build confidence. But if two people are not happy together, they probably will be better off apart.

Depends on how long you have been apart. If it has been a short time, you can stay away from Men, there is no rush. We all love our Children( even when they are Adults ). Unless there isstill a lot of baggage to take care of, don't think of your ex.
He get's his visitation etc, and you both carry on.

Maybe giving up on men is about building a wall of self-protection around yourself. It maybe feels safer to make those kind of definitive decisions.
The reality is perhaps more that at any given time you can choose to accept, or not accept some kind of sharing of yourself. You don't necessarily have to decide in advance in order to shield yourself from hurt.
