Them things are a disgrace and all the money their making doing people out of work and making more profit, a friend of mine she left the paper clip on the cheque on purpose and put it into the machine and I'm sure you can guess what happend.

modermen: It was T.S.B that I was in, yeah no need to be giving the staff a headache as its not their fault their bosses are gangsters but their pulling a fast one with the machines going by people I spoke to in the bank as they want to talk to a face over the counter and not a machine, the next thing will be robot bank teller or screen over the counter ,anything to cut salaries and make more bucks for themselves, any way we own most the banks and I like doing deals with a human not a machine.

That sounds like socialist Marxist talk to me. laugh Is business not supposed to be about making money?

People say South Africa is a third world country - we had these machines over twenty years ago. AND the banks are closed half-day on Wednesdays but open on Saturday mornings for those of us who work.

Third world? hmmmmmpeace

I don't think the measurement is what machines your bank have. I think it is more about the lifestyle of the majority of people and the services provided for those who are very poor.

So with a lot of the population living in corrugated shacks and there being virtually no welfare system I would say it is third world. dunno

You're so right. And it is terrible to see, trust me. I went back after being away for many years, and it's then that you realise what winning the lotto could do for some people. And you know what? With absolutely nothing, and I mean nothing, they still smile.

Welfare recipients here could do with realising how lucky they are.

Not to get into politics, it's very difficult to take isolated incidents and judge the whole country by it - I lived it for 27 years. I've seen it. I've a better understanding than most, and still I can't judge. There is never a justification for senseless violence, be it from the "good" side or the bad.

However, I have to say, SA is still one of the most fabulous countries in the world. Crime notwithstanding....

If you ever go, Cape Town is the best destination, with a trip up the Garden Route (east coast). Leave Johannesburg central out, not worth it at all, extremely corrupt and dangerous part of the country. You won't forget South Africa, that much I promise.
