aha..we would, we had one a few weeks back..I still look at others to see if I should run, if they look relaxed I dont...
Hmm seems some when the second one hit ran straight away, lucky they did....Still, its not the magnitude as much as the depth that it is eg if its shallow..well run...uh oh

Morning Robo , so long as they are little it's alright . Time and again over the radio I have heard that Cantabrians are able to guess the size closely .Should be able to close GNS and save a sack of money by asking around . Plenty of Cantabrians spread around NZ so all is good .

Like my brother, I was born during a cyclone. Neither of us remember any of it. And I have not lived in a cyclone area. They were a freak of nature.

Authorities can only give out so much advice. They have no idea what the worst can be. People live in the USA in the Cyclone Belt and have their shelters. They take their chances that they will survive.

Qld does have its Cyclone Areas. People choose to live there. Okay, they may lose their crops and income once in how many years. But they do make money most of the time. They risk it.

Darwin is hit with cyclones nearly every year. Nothing as devastating as Cyclone Tracy. But they have rebuilt to withstand that level. But if Yolanda had struck there, it would be devastating.

The Phillipines has many cyclones every year. Actually, they have many typhoons each year (it is an Asian thing). And some places have hurricanes instead (usually in the Americas).

There are many that can afford to build a shelter to withstand cyclones, etc. Many make do with what they have available.

Goldy, as bad as you may have experienced in your little part of Qld, I do not believe you have experienced anything like Yolanda. A bit like the earthquakes that devasted Christcurch but that was one freak occurence which happens in many parts of the world every year.
