I have read it now a few times that people find it annoying, and I am sort of confused about that.
I mean, first of all its description if 'comfort'. Now some may would say another patting one on the head or what not is not comfort, but the smilie to the left looks sad, and afterwards it looks happy, so for the smilie in that emote, it clearly seems to be comforting.
And as for my own self, I find it actually a relief when someone acts a bit condescending towards me. I find to be humbled comforting. When I stand outside at night and look up at the stars, that humbles me too, the vasteness of the universe.. our still so limited understanding of so many things... It makes me my own self feel that little bit less important, and through that also my worries and pains. If another treats me in 'condescending' ways, that too can remind me that I am not the last word in wisdom, that I only have views and no way of telling how ultimately close to the truth they are. When another pats me on the head, it leads me to remember such and it comforts me, without ever rising any form of defiance within me.
Why does this seem to be so different for others? Why is being humbled or sometimes having someone else not take us all too serious, a bad thing? What do we feel we are losing through it?
Not meant nasty, just trying to understand how others work differently, it appears
