Yes, the Ancient Thracians had been living on this land thousands of years before the Ancient Romans qonquerred them. They left behind quite a lot of beautiful things to admire, now found at the National Museum of History in Sofia and also in other local museums. Pure 24-carat gold feast vessels of transcendent beauty, some older than the so famous Egyptian pyramids, are what the Thracians are mostly known for today. peace

To manufacture these exquisite marvels of human spirit, some 7-12 thousand years old, they used quite an innovative technology known today as sintering. That is to put a metal in a powdered form in a die and heat it until all the fine grit is caked in one piece. Thus using much lower temperatures, than it takes for an ordinary metallurgical process, they had big solid pieces!

The Ancient Thracians washed gold grit from the rivers using furs, packed stone carved dies and had these pieces heated in the fire. Then engraved them just as much as needed, and finally brushed and polished these vessels to shine as Suns.applause

Yes, Bulgarians are as bad in languages as Englishmen are. rolling on the floor laughing It is officially stated that at most 40% of young Bulgarians know English - a figure that is much exaggerated. What is probably meant is that they have studied English at school for some time opting it for the far more easy Russian that every Bulgarian can understand without much study as both use the Cyrillic alphabet and much of the vocabulary - at least 79 percent, is the same or too very similar!

Bulgarian language has evolved from old Slavic, so as to drop all cases. That are the different endings of the same words according to their role in the sentence. Thus Bulgarian uses only the prepositions for this purpose, just as English does. It turns Bulgarian as the easiest of all Slavic languages to be learned, yet the closest to Russian, which is of course spoken by far more people, but has 6 cases - a nightmare for a Bulgarian that tries to speak it! Yet one can understand it quite fine!
peace

And finally using the Cyrillic alphabet simplifies spelling to just what you hear is what you write. applause

Oh, I forgot to mention: One can always know what is the gender of a word by the way it ends. So there is no need to stuff that info, that makes French or German so difficult for a foreigner to learn. frustrated

Oh, at last but not least! If you are a German, French or even an Englishman you may want to ask about a very important matter - what about the indefinite and the definite articles. dunno

Well, we simply don't complicate things with the former but still use the the latter by putting it at the end of the words!
It's a very important issue! Why? Just wait to discover!
cheers

For the last 2 weeks (4 if we watch BBC rolling on the floor laughing) I was toiling on the problem how a foreigner can make good friends with a Bulgarian the easy way. Of course, it's the funny way too! And I have had some fun alongside these so important achievements! So if you are interested show it! I may publish it for free. Why keep it just for me? cheering

Modern version of Bulgarian music. I don't know much about your country, except that you shake your head differently to mean "yes" or "no".

Yes, there are many Bulgarians who prefer to listen quite different styles of songs - Greek, Serbian, Turkish or Bulgarian folk, etc.

About Red Bredbary; That you or Conrad have cited on my inspiration thread - I don't like this author. Sorry I simply cannot like him. Not to say to cite him.barf

Yes I agree that we can judge roughly about people on what they like to listen. But in other aspects it may not be so important.

I'd rather ask myself do people in Bulgaria live better that in let's say France?

Here the minimum wage is 175E, while in France 1270E before taxes.
Here one loaf of bread is 0.35E, while in France, maybe 2 or 3E.

Yes, the beer here is excellent, malty and too cheap compared to the beers in other parts of EU. For example 1L plastic bottle of all
makes is 0.75E, while in France, maybe 4-5E or more? I won't be astonished if this figure is even 8-9E in some countries.

The same is for cigarettes: 2-2.25E a pack for any International make, while in other EU states 8 to 12E!

If you like we can compare these and other prices. cheers

A coffee out is 0.5E here while in Greece is 3E! I wonder how much does it cost in Germany or UK?

Many Greek and other nationals come to Bulgaria to have their teeth repaired. A dentist here will charge 100E for a crown of one tooth, 200 for a bridge of 2 teeth, etc. What about in your country?

Some 20 years ago I watched "Forrest gump". A very special film indeed since it was a fun and a thoughtful and carefully made, and pleasant to watch.

The main actor in it - Tom Hanks - of course, had made it even better! Well, what was my surprise to discover that he have been married to a Bulgarian woman. cheers

Elizabeth Kostova.

Some time ago I heard this Bulgarian sounding name to have received a best novel prize in the States. Well at last, I said, they had noticed us.

Well it wasn't exactly the case again. Simply this woman writer had taken the name of her husband - a Bulgarian programmer.

Some Greek guy asked about the drugs related crimes here. Well.

Marseilles, France was the whole of the year 2013 the European city of culture. What a joke.

During that period 70 drugs related murders were reported there, according to Brit's Daily Telegraph. As for the whole of Bulgaria, that is 10 times more populous than that so famous French city - 2!

So, there are enough of reasons one should visit this country, be it as a sea/spa/mountain/cultural tourist or simply on a business/private trip.

From Paris, for example, it would take you 2h40min and will cost you 100E in one direction or 250E in both on fixed dates.

But if you had wanted to set-up a cherry garden like one Greek man did, or a snail-farm, etc. you are a little bit too late as the prices of the agricultural lands have equaled that of similar ones in France.

cheers
