For the folks who want to get away from the modern day farce that is Christmas christmas sad

It's beyond a joke, my local Tescos slipped in an isle of Christmas crap the day after Halloween, now they have tinsel hanging from the ceiling and a tree barf

The Christmas lights were switched on in Oxford Street on November 12th
I remember up until a few years ago that they were never switched on until 1st December, last January I sent a complaint to Westminster City Council asking why the lights were still up on January 27th & could they be taken down as they were causing me alarm, distress and making me feel depressed conversing

I could go on, why is Christmas now a 3 month event? When I was a kid I don't remember it being dragged out like this, it went on for a couple of weeks.

Merry Christmas folks christmas sad

I hear you Mickey! wave

Commercialism gone mad? I remember I walked into a local discount store late Nov/ could have been early December and hear old Bing singing "White Xmas" frustrated

apart from the fact that we are in Australia and Xmas is in the summer which means it is usually min 28C - I do not want to hear that for the next month!

Told one of the checkout ladies as I walked out the store to tell the manager that as long as they were playing Xmas carols/music so soon before Xmas I would not be shopping there christmas sad christmas sad christmas sad

Call me The Grinch of Xmas - I will accept it gladly. professor

Now that we have FB and email etc. to talk to people I have cut down cards, especially the overseas ones as a stamp costs $1.80 I think it is and that is ridiculous when you have 10 or more.

So now instead I buy a gift for about $20 for a child in need angel

And told my friends, they prefer that, win all round?

Said this before, but I will bore you people with it again ...

I hate the cutesy, schmaltzy ads that the big stores put on TV at Christmas where the perfect, huuge family are sitting at a dining table laden with enough food for an army. barf

Firstly, there are a lot of people who might spend xmas alone so this reinforces their loneliness, there are people who may have recently lost a loved one and don't want to hear all that jingle bells stuff.

Then there are the 'divorced' families who are having their first divorced Xmas - and that is not always a bundle of laughs.

I would love to find a place - hot or cold to go to that I could afford that doesn't even mention Xmas for a long weekend! very mad very mad very mad

Ok - had my rant, get off my soapbox.... teddybear

Make room on the soap box for me thengrin

I have to agree with you .Though I'm not averse to Christmas as such,it's just that the whole concept has disappeared in a commercial whirlpool.

When it costs more to post a card than to buy one, then the sentiment is completely lost.

The TV ads for Supermarkets are like giant food fights, and not really about Christmas, but more about scoring points.

Kids today demand so much that their values are contorted and they have no appreciation of anything in my opinion. We are raising a world of spoiled brats.

Bring back the old days when family meant something, and people actually cared if someone was on their own.
