Bad Dates ( Archived) (1)

We've all heard stories about the victims of bad dates but we never hear from the perpetrators of dating disasters. No doubt you have been the "Bad Guy" or gal on dating disasters in your past. Today you probably can't believe you were ever such a jerk. Here's one of my dating screw ups, it's not the only one BTW. crying

I was about to turn 20 in January and it was approaching New Years Eve so I decided to ask this nice looking chic if she wanted to spend new years with me, she accepted. I happened to be still living with my mother at the time and I didn't even have a car. For the life of me I can't remember how the girl got to my house, probably by bus. Anyway, when she came in she saw my mother sitting on the couch watching TV and knitting. My mother felt embarrassed so she went into her room to give us some privacy. I had a bottle of gin and proceeded to start drinking because I thought that was the purpose of New Years Eve, to get as drunk as possible. Well, in about 20 minutes after she first arrived my "date" suddenly remembered she left something cooking on the stove and like a flash she was out the door.rolling on the floor laughing
Was I ever that stupid?
Around 10.00 PM the phone rings and it's a chick named Maryellen. She called for my brother who was best friends with her boyfriend Johnny, presently in jail. It seemed that she was at a party with SIX other girls and only 1 older guy. I told her my brother was at sea in the Merchant Marines and asked "Would I do" What a question! She said I would do just fine thank you. Normally I travel by public transportation. That night I took a Cab all the way out to the party about 25 miles away. Me and my half bottle of Mr. Gordons Gin. I made out with every girl in the house that night. At midnight all the girls ran out into the street with their noise makers while me and the mother of one of the girls whos' house it was, stood in front of the TV and watched the ball drop. We looked at each other and I shrugged my shoulders and thought “What the hell” as I took her in my arms and gave her a passionate kiss. She didn't object at all. I danced with Maryellen quite a bit most memorably to the Shirelles "Will you still love me tomorrow". I was smitten by her. In retrospect, I should have stayed home that night. Within a year we were married and she was 6 mo's pregnant.
