Abagail: We hire ex-military, Agent... based on their credentials. I find someone with artillery experience to be quite useful when working with the public.
Yeah, exactly, providing you only let them use rubber bullets laugh

Seriously, we have a young man with those credentials. Ex-military means they are grounded with good work ethics, as a rule. The military teaches them to work in a team, become part of the team ...whilst instilling how important their role is within the team.

I think military can be a good background for future employment.

unfortunately we have never found any use for them because they lack some serious knowledge in their trades. In saying that I can see how they work well as part of a team but the type of work we do is not team work. wine

I would say the role we give them is autonomous , but any business has values and a required or desired outcome... it takes team effort. Every cog...so to speak.

So what do you propose to do with long term unemployed? Is there another answer? It seems the current ideas are not working.

Hello Serene wave

The work for the dole schemes in Australia are often not working as efficiently as they had hoped. There may be pockets that the scheme is successful in, however, there are none in the local area ( to my knowledge) that say it's been a successful program. Talking to the individuals who partake--they tend to believe that they are being 'ripped off'... IF they were working jobs painting or weeding, they would be earning higher rates than the dole. It's almost like the program is missing an essential piece... Like group motivation.

Ahh, I see.

Yes I can appreciate that people would expect to be paid the job's worth .. and why can't they be?

As an incentive? .. while having networks in place where there is the potential for those who put the effort in to achieve a paying job and get off the dole completely.

National Service or CMT would not be long enough to learn a trade properly but the participants would learn a whole lot of self discipline, respect, self confidence and a whole lot of other attributes that should make them more employable.

First off all we have to abolish the payroll tax and lower the price of work cover. Then companies could double their workforce and we could become the highest skilled nation per capita in the world.

I think I have serious problem- Im at the game logging onto CS with my phone. laugh

Well, where would the wages come from? The conversations I was privy too ... well they were basing it on the wage of a qualified painter, or gardener.. Rather than an apprentice who is learning new skills.

It would be nice to see people get motivated to get off the dole, although, our economy is questionable ...

Not from what I have been hearing!!! These days apparently you are issued with cards and if you feel your commanding officer is on the harsh side you can red card him or her. laugh

Oh yes, and to the subject AT hand... IF it was that simple, wouldn't this have been done by Nations around the globe?

Actually it has been done in the old communist Russia and there are few companies giving it a go already. What they have found, people are the most productive in the first 6 hours and because they know it’s a short day they produce more than in an 8 hour day. wine

So, we should have police officers on 6 hour shifts. hmmm... So this would mean we need four shifts a day... which will build up the workforce?

Is the idea sustainable? Will they earn enough to live ... and not simply live, but have a quality of life?
