Green_Sleeves: Not a classic owner yet, but I do understand one thing, that being that if you wanna own a classic prepare to get your hands dirty because the chances are you're gonna be under the bonnet a lot or stood by the road side, bonnet popped; scratching your head Then there's issues with rust; keeping them under sealed and stored properly, ideally not really driving them during winter month unless youre prepared to keep them well waxed and checked.

So, yeah, I don't know why people say 'they don't make cars like they used to' but then, my little Starlet got me over and back to Doolin for about €40 and has almost 182k on the clock, now they don't make 'em like that anymore

depending on what you get, but in general you wont be spending much time under the bonnet if you maintain the cars well, my jaguar (and you will get the same with a spitty) has only one major downfall and that the SU carbs that tend to seize when the car is not used regularly, as for the mercs, never left me down, as with most cars from the 60's, 70's nd 80's the mechanics are simple so if maintained right they will never let you down dunno

body work, now thats an entirely different matter doh

stanley8m: Not sure if it is a classic but I am in the process of transforming a VW transporter into a campervan.
I had it for years as a work vehicle and didn't want to sell it for scrap prices so decided to give it a new lease of life.
Great engine, goes forever practically and just a matter of adding the internal bits.
would depend on the age of the vehicle but any thing over 20yrs old is concidered to be a classic these days dunno

and yes they are a great project to have, i had homebuild campers with many years, sadly dont have one at the moment, but i'm looking for a suitable van to convert, i do have the full internals of a caravan stored away, cooker, beds, shower, fridge etc so when i do pick up a van i've every thing here to do the job dancing
