The entire gulf region is more like a "relationship of convenience" for the United States on an as-needed basis...... Take Turkey where the U.S. has beefed up there defenses against Syria and United Arab Emirates and Qatar buy billions of U.S. military stuff while allowing U.S. naval vessels to dock there etc.
I don't care what they do with Sicily except Palermo; where my paternal family is from.

It used to be more like that with Russia backing Israel in a small way ,till everybody switched sides and toughened up .
