Colm Keavney joins Fianna Fail (29)

Dec 3, 2013 11:05 AM CST Colm Keavney joins Fianna Fail
well Colm Keavney who voted against the budget last year in protest at cuts to Child Benefit has decided to join Fianna Fail, the party who are responsible for the financial destruction of this country. To me It smacks of nothing more than unprincipled, careerism as Labour are sliding in the polls and FF are rising slightly.

Keavney also claimed today that FF have learnt from the mistakes of the past, absolute rubbish.

Is it any wonder why politicians are seen as unprincipled, Keavney was slating FF and even last year called a section of the party corrupt.

Not even 1% of Dail members care about the Irish public. They care about re election, their salary, their pension and contacts they can make for when they lose their seat. They normally join the boards of a few companies then from contacts made and get 40k a year for each board they join. 3 Board meetings a year for each company and take the rest of the time to spend your money and pension.

Something has to change quick. Nobody should get a pension until they are 65, nobody should be allowed 2 government pensions, and nobody should get a full pension for serving a couple of terms in the Dail.

So should FF get back into government and at some stage in the future Keavney either retires or loses his seat an outgoing FF government will appoint him to the boards of a few quangos.

Even by the standards of a politician the man is a pure opportunist.

I have voted for FG since 1997, I gave transfers to the PDS in elections as well, I have never given FF a transfer in my life and never will.

Who do you vote for yourself?

The last General Election I'm registered in the Offaly-Laois Constituency. I voted for Some Black fella that I can't pronounce and that guy the fundamentalist that Ordained Sinead O'Connor. We're traditionally a FF family, all around. We dissented.

So you voted for FF based on family tradition, did you actually think FF were the most competent party in the country?

Yes of course, at one point. And locally they had competent TDs. You have to remember, Charlie McCreevy getting up there on budget day and the place was awash with money. Sure them Golden boys could do no wrong. FF were a Borg party. Whatever good idea others might have had they lambasted them in public, privately took them in, re-spun it, and dished it out as their own making. Genius really. Then it all came tumbling. Charlie, Bertie, Flynn, Gilmartin @ Co etc etc etc.... it all became too much for anyone bar the hard core Party loyalists to stay with.

Anyway, I wasn't far out in guessing you had the PDs close to your heart. laugh

I used to vote Labour and an independent or two as my number 2 and 3. I will never vote Labour again as long as I live thou. I knew what FG were all about when they came to power so they have given no surprises. Labour are liars and snakes in the grass that will sell most of the people who got them into power down the river. They don't deserve the name Labour or the red rose. Eamonn Gilmore make me physically sick when I see him on TV.

I would have given a number 1 vote to the PDS if they had actually forced FF to rein in Public spending, sadly they did no such thing as regards public spending.

My father voted FF from 1973 up until 2007 inclusive, he was so disgusted with the way FF mismanaged the country that for the first time ever in his life in the last election he voted FG and has stated he will never vote FF ever again.

Seriously how any reasonably well educated person can vote FF in the next election is beyond rational thinking.

I'm actually going to defend a Shinner and I can't stand them but in fairness to McDonald in 1998 when she joined SF, they were at 2 or 3% in the polls and only had 1 TD in the Republic whereas FF would normally have got around 40%+ in an election. I don't think that within 6 years McDonald would have expected to be an MEP in Dublin when she first joined SF in 1998.

I have never voted along "family," lines, it is MY vote to use as I see fit, not my Dads or Mums, my Grandparents, or some other long dead relative who fought on one side of the civil war or the other. I have never felt compelled, or have been pushed to vote one way or another because of family, I was taught to decide for myself, there are times I have got it wrong, and regretted casting my vote for one side or the other, but, it is still MY vote, and not someone else's.

As for a labour member, a socialist, jumping ship, and landing in the middle of a deeply conservative, right wing party, it is just career management, nothing to do with political beliefs, and I hope upon hope, all those who voted for him, turn their backs on this man at the next election, the exact same way he has done to them. But I fear the sheeples will never learn.
