What's people's take on it? We all know about the RUC & Loyalist death squads.

But what about the Garda passing intell. to the PIRA that led to the deaths of two of the most high ranking RUC officers killed in the conflict....?

Never happened, how could anything like that possibly happen in a State set up by Saint Dev and the knights in shining armour of the old IRA. laugh

Sad in that it tarnishes the rep of a force who did well and risked their lives against terrorists. Vast majority were honourable, just like security forces in the North.

There was definitely some inside information passed on to the boys that day..Its too much of a coincidence for it to have happened randomly..firstly the area where the shooting occurred on the edenappa road outside the scrapyard there is dead ground..it couldn't be seen by the local observation post at the time..plus the fact that the lads had intimitate knowledge of the countryside around them..it couldn't have been more a perfect place for an attack..only a few hundred yards from the border too..easy escape..the 2 officers were naive and deluded to have chosen that route a backward country road into dead ground when they could have used the main Dublin to Belfast road where such an attack would have been far too risky from a security point of view to even attempt let alone execute..another fine example of the ingenuity of the South Armagh Brigadeireland

All that the tribunal concluded was that information had been passed from Dundalk Garda barracks but that was some stretch. It's a presumption to say it was the cops. My presumption is that MI5 or some other similar either bugged the barracks or more likely tracked the RUC 2 who were not amenable to 'nudging' with regard to operating a proposed shoot to kill policy. What a great credability boost for anyone carrying out such an attack, especially if their cover was fragmenting.

As Alex Jones would say, it was an inside job

There has also been collusion within the RUC and the British Army.........Sunday Bloody Sunday........the death of young Robert Hamill in Portadown town centre kicked and beaten to death whilst the police sat in their landrovers and watched him being kicked to death by a loyalist mob!

There has been collusion on both sides, not just with this story. Sad it is yes but the British Army and the RUC are responsible also for innocent Catholic deaths too, not just the Gardí.

Bloody Sunday wasn't collusion but murder. The Robert Hamill case again wasn't state collusion. Why the RUC/PSNI stood back and watched it unfold, I've never understood. Chances are they'll say they didn't want to make a bad situ. any worse.

I know of cases where the PIRA met with UVF volunteers to eliminate a common problem, Lenny Murphy is a classic example. Couldn't that be called collusion?

But the thread is about the Garda passing info to the provisionals. Not what is already known about British collusion with loyalists.

@HC, they were stupid, fool hardy or other for taking the route they took. Why theu didn't take the main Belfast-Dublin route is beyond me.

@Face, You could have something about other British agencies being involved. I wouldn't discount it..
