I've spent about 130 Euro's on Christmas Presents so far
But there are two items that i have bought that i think that stand out. The first is a boardgame that my cousins used to play as children (looking forward to a drunken game of it)
The second is a present for my best friend. A cheap Justin Bieber Backpack for no other reason than that it'll annoy him :)
How much have you spent and what is the most interesting thing you have bought?
Saw an interesting survey of the expected average Xmas spend per household in the EU for 2013 (food, drink and presents.)
The Dutch will spend €286, The Germans will spend €399, our Polish friends €268. One of the biggest spenders is the little country of Luxenbourg at €825 per household.
But the biggest spenders of all at Xmas, are the ones deep in recession, no, not the Greeks at €451, but the Irish at a massive average of €894 per household.
If you think that is nuts, then at least it is down from €1500 average per Irish household the height of the boom.

I dont think its crazy at all. I am curious how anyone can get away with doing Christmas for so little money.

I think it is also a cultural thing, in Ireland Christmas is the biggest religious festival of the year, it is given a position by the catholic church above all others, it is virtually a must for everyone in Ireland to celebrate Christmas to the Nth degree, there seems to be a prevailing pressure for people to go all out, couple that with the huge consumerism that we have imported from places like the USA, and it becomes a must to over do it, to over overspend, to break the bank, for what is just 1 day in the year.
I have lived in other countries, and yes, they celebrate Xmas, but not with the all consuming passion the Irish do, they realise that it is one day in the year, and they will not kill themselves, or go into serious debt over it.

Its a time for family,I am fortunate that my family are my best friends and we love spending time together.
Have never gotten into debt for Christmas, its not like its a surprise that it is coming, is just a matter of being organised.
