Most of us have met them: people with a long list of accreditations after their names, in possession of 5+ degrees but no common sense whatsoever. doh

Does the Education level of your prospective partner mean alot to you? Is it in your list of "Match Requirements"? Do you think there is a difference between "educated" and "intelligent"? Do you feel that any prospective partner you may have needs to fulfill a certain academic level, or would you be happier to go with that "gut instinct" that you will have things in common?

Have you ever come across anyone so incredibly naive and worldly UN-wise who possesses a high level degree and what experience did you get?!

What a great thread!
I think there's a HUGE difference between what I call "book smart" and "street smart". I was married to a man who is highly intelligent but has zero common sense. A list of degrees as long as my arm means nothing. Natural intelligence wins, every time idea

Who do you know who has five degrees, do you mean in different subjects or in one subject specialising up the degree ladder. Someone who has a higher degree isn't stupid, and what you call common sense or heuristic reasoning is sometimes inaccurate. Perhaps you could clarify this for me????

thumbs up

I know exactly what you mean! I have always believed that a formal education is no way a promise of intelligence and the possession of a degree is totally unimportant to me. wave

"Five degrees" was used as a funny Tom; not to be taken literally.

I know the subject of education and common sense comes up alot in conversation.

Well the three degrees were a good group. I guess I missed the joke and I'm usually the comedian. Didn't you have an education then.

I remember when we were kids we used to pretend to be stupid cause the gang ethos was all people who are educated are nurds. A sort of reverse snobism.

But I am staying well out of this bashing.

I agree. A formal education is incredibly important of course, especially in today's job market though. handshake
