I think that guy should wear underpants the next time he starts a fight
Or at least do up the draw string on his jogging pants
And maybe the other guy might not want to start a fight by putting his head on the other lads willy? Just sayin, it looks like these two guy know each other and this is just some sort of public role play they get into before getting freaky with it
Fraya: Jaysus I thought I was being direct. I don't know another way. What was the point again? Oh yeah...It takes all kinds to make this thing spin on its pivot. How you react is your responsibility.
Fraya: And the fanbase grows. So much for individuality
All we have on CS are pamphleteers who like to publish their own opinions but don't seem to actually DO anything. All the rhetoric in the world will change little. They might as well be propping up their local bar with all the difference they are making. If we take the humour out of it all, we risk actually creating the illusion that what is said is more than what it really is.

If ANY of OUR opinions can encourage someone to think for themselves and maybe help solve a problem for them, surely there's validity in as you put it 'pamphleteering' to some degree?

I totally agree that anything that helps people to think for themselves is good. However, saturating people with one kind of opinion and encouraging them to agree with that is not helping people to think for themselves. It's helping them to think like the poster. Encouraging healthy debate and taking into account a selection of different opinions and their validity will create more individual thinking. However, this thread was about the forces of seriousness and fun. Taking one opinion too seriously over another gives it too much power and only suits the people who put that opinion forward. You make light of it at your peril. As you yourself said, there is room for everyone style of posting on CS.

facetowardsfront: That would be the job of the philosophers I'd say. If something is not true at all times, in all places and in all ciccumstances, then it is a fallacy. Take violence for instance. When is it ok to initiate violence against somebody? I don't mean self-defence, that's not initiating violence. I mean, when is it ok to go up to somebody and attack them or rob them or kidnap them? Never, right? But we find, in our own country and time a group of people who think it is ok to do just that if they have a special costume with the word 'Garda' written on it.
When is it ok to steal someones property? Never, right? But we have people who will scribble some writing on a paper in the Oireachtas and say it gives them the power to steal.
We don't have to go to other countries to find people who live outside the accepted norms of a civilised society. And that's no laughting matter
Bit rough on the garda ? Surely u meant criminals....who the garda protect us from And u vote? politics is about legislation
