I watched a special last night on the upcoming trial of Pistorius. I got the overall feeling he isn't looking good. Also, the judge chosen for the trial is a woman known for her stand on women's rights, mistreated spouses, etc...They do not have jury trials, as I understand. He's in deep doo doo.

Me too. Please understand that I am just writing this out of community interest--when the story broke last year I felt SO sorry for him. Observing the case, and not at all the type to jump to conclusions, I will say that the prosecution seems to have many valid points. Of course, this always seems to be the case, in all trials. He appears to have a history of abusing alcohol and girlfriends. I'm having a hard time believing him, but I want to, because everyone deserves to be fairly heard. It's distressing.
As an international media circus gathers and rolling TV coverage is planned, the frenzy of tweeting and commentary will put South Africa's justice system under close scrutiny.

I also felt desperate for him at the bail hearing. I think we all just wanted it not to have happened but I'd say he's got one hell of a fight ahead of him. The latest I read is that there are 107 State witnesses lined up.
CasualCarol: Oh My, Court TV arrives in S. Africa?
From The Guardian ...

Only parts of the trial will be televised but the media frenzy has already started

As of today (3/19) some media sources are saying the state prosecutor's case appears to be faltering. On the other hand, they could have an ace or two up their sleeves. And, there's the possibility of 'who one knows...'. (I have been a little reluctant to say too much as I wouldn't want any media coverage, including leisurely forums, as well, to in any way mar the overall fairness of this trial. (Yes, I think that's possible). I was a juror for over a month, and we couldn't talk to each other outside the court, we couldn't watch news, or read papers. They showed Bugs Bunny cartoons in the foyer lounge, that's all the TV we were allowed. One juror started to say what she thought at lunch at a restaurant and the foreman told her to can it toot sweet. It's complicated....
I'd like to hear from anyone and everyone about this ASAP. What's it looking like for Oscar? I know the prosecution rested today. What do you folks think will be the outcome. This case has me so intrigued. Thanks.

Today the prosecutor played voicemail messages between Oscar and Reeva. In one of the voicemails she is heard saying "Sometimes I'm afraid of you".
Defense attorney said that that voicemail is the exception as other voicemails showed cooing and terms of endearment between them.
I thought until this voicemail that he might get away with a light sentence. Now it's up to the defense attorney to play down that voicemail.
He killed her under the premise that she was an intruder and thereunto his life was threatened. That in itself gives him the right to protect himself and her IF that was his intent.
He was on his stumps when he put four bullets in the bathroom door. If she had been standing one of the bullets wouldn't have hit her in the head.
JeanKimberley: It is an interesting trial - a tragedy for her family and his.
Yes. I don't know why, but I am concerned about him. For his well being. I don't think he meant to kill her, but for that one hot moment of anger (yes, I think he knew she was in the toilet and he fired, knowing it was she, but I think that was a split second or two, so he is guilty, but didn't "mean" to do it, if that makes any sense. I am sorry for him so much...)

that's the thing about guns, it just takes a simple handgun and the click of the finger...
