yeah, just wondering about the general feeling people have, It wasn't important to me either, but do find it supports you in times of trouble, answers your questions about your life and gives you comfort.

The biggest one of all!, that there's more than the here and now and I now know where I'll be going!, but also I think that those who have a belief system to sustain them through times of trouble etc do better than those who don't. Those who have a handle on life seem to be the one's who have worked out, satisfactorily for themselves what they think it's all about.

I don't disagree with the idea that people who have beliefs, even if it involves their reincarnation as a dolphin, can draw comfort from it. What questions it answers about life is beyond me though...

The questions it answers about my life is that my life is a gift, I have a creator, it's worthwhile living a decent life and to have faith and also that someday I'll go to that everlasting Kingdom.

Most people try and live a decent life, it's instinct. However, many are affected by their conditioning and upbringing; the choice is whether or not they stay that way or change.

I believed in Santa once.

haha, so did I!!!, I understand most people try to live a decent life, I was just wondering generally about how important religion is to people these days. It wasn't important to me once, but is now.

I am spiritual, yet I cannot explain what it is that I have faith in - it's not being Catholic as I was raised. I do feel there's "something", I can't believe we came from nothing, or the big bang, because in order for that to happen, there had to have been "something" to big bang?

But it's a subject that's taboo in most cases, too many people get heated in their fight. If people go to mass, and believe, and it makes their life better, how bad.

Without Hope, we are doomed.

Dont you mean it gives you an excuse to not take responsibility for your own life?

What gives me comfort is not believing, it was a relief the day I realised religion is a load of nonsense.

There is absolutely no proof of any of that.

Having no proof is why its called faith, and if peoples faith gives them comfort in the belief that after this life they go on to be reunited with loved ones gone before and eternal life of peace and happiness then why should non-believers try to take that faith from them because of a lack of proof. By the same reasoning those with that faith should not try to force faith on those who dont believe.

This has long been my opinion....

"God is an absentee landlord", what a great line....
in darker times when we lived on the back of religeous fervour, there was no knowledge of the evolution of the species, and anyone who dared to suggest such a thing was declared a heretic and (citation needed) dealt with severly by the church inquisitors, probably putting 'the fear of god' into the peasants....We have moved on, we know, all of us where we come from, we know the truth of our origins, God didn't put us here, biological evolution did...

If you have a faith, bully for you, but I manage my own actions and consiquences, God and faith are not, and never will be factors that will direct my lifes path...

Lack of proof IMO is one of the very reasons people should shout from the rooftops about the lie that is religion. It is the biggest, and sadly most successful, scam ever perpetrated. It gives people an excuse to hand over reponsibility for their own lives, to behave as they wish and then 'confess' and all is forgiven only to do it all over again. Strange thing is though everything good that happens is down to god but everything bad is down to mankind.
