"....Bring me a god who is reliable, trustworthy, unconditionally loving, fair, available when needed and can manifest himself in a clear way so we need not doubt his existence...."
Best of luck with that one then?
Unconditional? As long as it involves being aware you will live in eternal damnation if you step a foot wrong, you need to live in fear, and of the making an entire human woman out of a man's rib (medical science was so much better than it is today!), actually walking on water and no explanation whatsoever as to why some innocent folks are subjected to a life of inordinate suffering with no clear evidence as to why that's deserved and yet some of the more depraved reprobates in society live long, healthy, happy lives.....
There will, no doubt, be some enlightened and insightful person that will be able to give the categorical (beyond question) answer.

We were I think given this "new god" which is The Covenant between man and God. That I think is The New Testament of The loving God you seek. The New Adam and The New Eve were given to us someone just choose to crucify this testament.
The old god you speak of may well have been a cruel tyrant but there again we have only man's testament to truth on that.
No God allows suffering I would think as we have to be what we have to be. You would surely not expect to leave the grocer without payment for goods received. Life I would suppose would be something like that, you pay as you go. As for the elites and non sufferers as we could call them. The only difference with those folk is they ARE god in this life. Maybe this is where we went wrong as a civilization, I believe man is a caring animal, he just seems to have lost his way a long time ago. He also seems to like being god, but all things mortal will come to it's own end. This man-god could go through life and never think of God, give him cancer and ask if there is a God.
This old God we were told of in The Old Testament gave us but ten basic rules to live by. He may have been a cruel and unforgiving god, I really don't know other than what other men have written. The New God we are told is His Son, He gave us the word by which to live according to Him. If I believe in His Word then I believe He walked on water. He really gave us a different rule to live by. Love, Love your fellow man as you love yourself. I have a much simpler rule by which I live. I've seen and caused a lot of hurt to learn the lesson of This New God..............I try to cause no hurt to no one. If I have some awful price to pay as I leave this theater of players. I hope I will be shown what it is I have in my basket from the grocery store........
By the way Ms Dandelion. Have you noticed it is always man this, and man that in this old lore of long ago ? The Christ mentions His Mother in a few places if memory serves, but He did hold Her in high regard I think. Maybe this word religion should have more regard for The Feminine in The Word we were given ?

It is always good to read from someone who is so knowledgeable about the universe that she knows that there is no God. Moreover, it is interesting that the only way you would believe in God was if He behaved exactly as you wanted Him to behave. A very interesting idea.
The truth is, neither you nor anyone else can demonstrate that there is no God. So, your point that there is no God is much less reasonable than those who believe in God.
By the way, it would be good if you could show the world or tell the world where the first subatomic particle came from. You do not need show where the earth came from or how it came to be. You just need to how the first nano-gram of matter appeared. I would certainly be satisfied if you could do that.
kidatheart: I have to ask, what does praying do for you, personally? Is it a release, relieving you of your mortal sins, and does it give you a sense of relief of any kind?
Not knocking you, just curious, as I've never seen at as anything more then just talking to yourself, with the intent of allowing yourself to go on with your status quo.
I could be wrong, it happens, a lot more often than I'd like to admit.
Just knocking the haters, nothing more nothing less. Whole thing was meant to be a bit of sarcastic fun (even if only for myself). We could all do with a knock on the head from time to time. Fair bit of interesting reading in here I think, wish I had more time to read and ponder the views people have invested time in posting (being a speed reader would be great). Perhaps you'll glean your answer from one of the other posts.
I wonder if these same non believers would ever have the guts or the courage to take and say the same things to a Muslim Extremist about Allah. They have the guts to say to pretty much a peaceful religion, lets see them take a Quran and burn it, after all it is just a book in your thinking, just like the Bible. After all you don't want to be hypocrites now, right?

Theres no holy book .all of them written by man,but If i dont accept Quran as a holy book, doesnt mean that i have to burn it.I d never burn a book that millions of people admire. Its their belief and i just need to respect it.And i know if i burn the Quran there will be many casualities and victims around the world just like happened when that idiot priest did.i might be safe myself but i will be responsible for that. Its a crime to burn a book and cause trouble everywhere with doing so.Only sick minded people would burn a Quran or Bible presentably.

Praying is a personal thing as it is between the prayer and the prayee. Not being a Theologian by any means but as to "sin" I think it only a release of and maybe a relief of some kind. The Act of Confession is the only form of forgiveness other than true repentance by any individual to his God.
It is one would suppose a form of talking to oneself but with the added factor of maybe talking to your own personal God. If you believe in God, Divine Intelligence or indeed any other mortal label you are not alone. You are I suppose seeking discernment from what you hope is some form of god.
There is no status quo if I read you right in the sense intended if you seek true penitent forgiveness........You are forgiven, go, and sin no more. .................
Knock not the haters exself as that is their purpose in life when not trying to goad. The Postman delivers the mail as do many people just do their job. Just as the one liners on any forum will seek to destroy a poster with a reasonable train of thought which is wished to be expressed. The also have thought but maybe unable or afraid to express it. This old goat has been about a long time. Autumnal facing Winter has a few fears. I do hope I have the courage to say, yes I did this and do forgive me if you would. We could only hope to man up and do the right thing.....

My bad there mzetoile as I had meant to reply to you also. Pondering, not paying attention..........
Replace exself to mzetoile in my above post...My regards, Murt.
Bout that woman in hell that was told it was to late,if we all read the Bible and apply it to our lives,Go to Church, pray,Praise, say The Fathers Prayer, which The Bible says to pray everyday, cause in that we ask for forgiveness, and ask all evil to be wiped away,Thy Will Be Done on earth as it is in heaven. follow all the commandments...We wont have to worry bout going to hell, and burning with the hypocrites, lyers, murderers, theives,u name it ,it will be there, with weeping and nashing of teeth,to me whoever wants to go there will not do what The Bible says~and they will find out when My Lord Jesus Comes Again,Praise His Name*******Sher

I just assumes a God that is loving and almighty and all the other good stuff they say about him should be like that. If not whats the use believing then?
Not being able to explain, know or proof things are no proof that God exists. What if someday someone can explain all that in a scientific way will God then stop existing?
To me it does not matter if God exist or not as it has no effect whatsoever on my life.

I don't understand all this talk about forgiving of sins. I live a quiet life without much opportunity for sinning so don't think I need to be forgiven for anything....unless there are some sins I don't know about.

Was a bit busy for a while so no time for hanging around here but read all the replies. Very interesting as it seems to me that very few people still believe for the right reasons. I really admire the ones who can truly believe without fear of hell or hope of eternity in heaven to motivate them into believing. You go well as your believe really make your life worth living.
I also admire the ones who can be true non believers because of choice and not just to rebel against religion. It is especially hard for persons growing up with a lot of indoctrination to break away from it and become completely free.
The ones still in doubt are the ones to pity as they are still fighting for or against God. Their war is not over yet. At least I know now that God is still needed by some for good reasons so may God live for them as long as they need him.
What I find very amusing amongst Christian follower is their deep affiliations with pagan superstition and their homes filled with pagan charms...those are going straight to hell.
