I got to meet Mr & Mrs C (one of those horrible Polish names) when she worked with ex#1 way back in 1975. I am godfather to their twin daughters and they moved from Sydney to Adelaide back in the early 80s. And Mrs C & I have kept in contact all of those years (yeah, she puts Mr C on sometimes). Oddly enough, she hasn't heard from ex#1 for something like 20+ years while I been over and stayed a few times.
And it got me thinking about "old" friends.
2 January this year and I got together with 5 guys I started high school 50 years ago. 3 of them were from the band that performed on occasion at school 'functions.' The one guy I couldn't really remember was the lead guitarist at the time. He went on to be the lead guitarist for LRB and now owns all the rights to LRB, and living in Ireland.
In 1973 I worked for the Maritime Services Board of NSW on the water. In 1998 I went away for a long weekend with a couple of guys from work and another 2 guys were away with us. 2nd day out, sitting around the campfire and I realised I had worked with one at the MSB. 2008 and we caught up again at William Creek Hotel in SA - middle of nowhere. He was travelling with my mate that I spend a lot of time with in the outback. They have been very good mates over the years. I have just spent 10 days away with him recently, him travelling with my mate so he could get back to Sydney. Good reminiscing about some of the characters we worked with.
Have others had these sort of renewed contacts after many years?
