I remember huge amounts of stuff from my childhood and my childhood was mostly spent being forced to be bored or coping with adult's malfunctions. I wish my generation had learning tools for kids like leapfrog and computers and internet. Instead, one of the best things that happened to me was that a Chicaho area TV station had monster movies every day. I watched them all. Mothra, Gamra, Dracula, tarantulas taking over a 1950s town, mud monsters, you name it, I saw it back then.

lifeisadream: When food is prepared by someone else for us it could be tastier. Although, the beef production has changed to more profitable models and that includes feeding the cows with disgusting products like chicken manure while in the old days grass, hay and grains would have been the most used food for them.

Perhaps, adding to your beef some garlic and onion might taste better.

I was raised on a large dairy farm.

I can recall, being a bit of a tomboy...helping Dad hose down the milking shed, making "dens" in the haybales in the haybarn with my 3 brothers.

Driving the tractor was a buzz.

I also remember eeling with my brothers down at the river. I hated the slimy eels, and it wasn't till years later that I was game enough to try smoked eel...which I surprisingly enjoyed.

We'd busy ourselves with calf club day. I attended a very small rural primary school. Those were the days when we would line up with our mugs for hot cocoa during winter.

During summer we(the neighbours and us) would play bull-rush on the front lawn.

We had a couple of motorbikes on the farm and I used to love riding up and down the farm track. We also had a pool table and because we were all so competitive, there was lots of.

It was a happy time....the vast open space, being carefree. We didn't watch much tv at all. Most of our time was spent outside and we all got involved with sports in a big way.

....and then we all grew up and became responsible, logical, practical...

Gawd....I should proof-read.

"and because we were all so competitive, there were lots of disputes."

It was!

Except the noise at night....the frogs and bulls.

I remember one night my boyfriend stayed over(he slept out in the lounge....of course I sneaked out to see him). Dad woke up, shining the torch and muttering "the bulls are out"...lol I had scrambled behind a door.

I was petrified.

....but there were ACTUAL bulls out of their paddock outside.

My boyfriend and I had a chuckle about it afterward.

In response to: What do you remember from your childhood?

Your family, friends, circumstances, places, aromas, food, school,......?

Is it something/someone that you like it very much?
Is it something that you really dislike it?
Is it something that defined your path in some way?

Please feel free to comment to each other.

Well, it wasn't the bulls and frogs doing "it" together, I know that much...I was a pretty naive country kid, but knew from an early age how things came about....growing up on a farm is very enlightening like that.laugh

I remember almost everything, all i'd like to say is a very big thank you to our parents, who did their best to make us happy and feeling free and comfortable with life, showing us the positive side of it, in spite of our frequent moves and other parameters... how exciting it was to discover new places, meet new friends, new people, new habits etc.... then Christmas was a sacred time, we always had a pause to celebrate it all together, whatever the exterior circumstances were, and it was the biggest challenge ever, how lovely .... danceline

Gosh after all these years, I don't really remember what kind of a child I was.

I was a tom boy sometimes, my Dad wanted boys and my brother was not born until I was 8 or so - so he taught us his girls (my sisters) all to hunt and fish and play sports games, to ride a bike. he taught us to fly (he was a pilot) - We learned to walk on snowshoes, ski downhill and cross-country, loved to hike - he bought my first horse - he build my first gun out of wood, and bought me my first chemistry kit and microscope - and camera -

I read a lot too, and I liked to dress up in "girly" clothes and I also liked my jeans and t-shirts and went off on imaginary adventures in the neighborhood - where ever we were stationed. It was a very good childhood full of friends and travel and family and unconditional love.
