SCatlyn: Yeah, yeah... but it's written by Jimmy Page - wrote lots of Glen Campbell's songs- I saw Glen in concert a few yrs. ago & he really had a lot of admiration for him. Actually, it's more that I love the music & voice - I love great voices, but once in a while I find I really love one that's not such a great singer - and still love it.

On that other thread - someone posted I'm Easy- Keith Carradine - I always loved that one, too - relaxing(and introed my husband to it- he liked it as well).

Oh, here's one I can't stand, but my spouse loves - Jimmy Ruffin - "What Becomes of the Brokenhearted" - Jimmy Ruffin is fine - I just hate the song(I expect I'm the only one that feels that way)

"All By Myself" -Eric Carmen - is a popular dislike. My dad(he worked the nightshift, so had the radio to block out noise while he slept when us kids got home from school) once said, "That song came on the radio when I fell asleep and it was still playin' when I woke up."

Did you mean "Jimmy Webb"??? just trying to follow along here. LOL.
thanks.

Well, I had to look it up. In the music business there are a lot of surprises and I am continually intrigued with some of the parallels with unlikely "pairs". I remember hearing "Kashmir" in the background of a Puff Daddy song thinking that they must have stole it and the camera panned over to Jimmy Page right there playing it on his Les Paul. I would never had guessed. Still makes me wonder if it was the money or what??? LOL.

fishinandshootin: glenn campell is doing bad.. saw his show a few months ago.. he did witchata lineman three times. he has Alzheimers. his daughter plays with him to help keep him straight during his shows... its very sad
Aww- really sad, been wondering how he was - about a yr. ago when I was in the middle of shipping my stuff here, my ex was in the house channel-surfing & caught him with alot of his family on "Ellen" & called me to see. In concert, he'd had the oldest daughter with him & she dueted with him on "All I Have to do is Dream", but several of his family & wife were on Ellen. He did Wichita Lineman on there, as well, and spoke with Ellen - both he & his family mentioned things he had trouble remembering-
-Alzheimers- one of those really sad diseases.

That man has more talent - the last song of the concert - he played and sang "Amazing Grace" on the bagpipes. My ex, who is a singer, said that's very hard to do, the breath needed to sing and play bagpipes... And lots of people think Jimi Hendrix was the only great guitarist - but I saw Glen hold his guitar over his head and play a song-not something simple, either(can't remember what it was)- unbelievable.
Love Glen Campbell- voice alone would be enough- but super-talented

Well, I think some of it started with CMT doing a duets thing. And I remember Alison Krauss and Robert Plant won a Grammy (for a duet) just a few years ago!
I wasn't a Led Zep. fan, but love LZ's D'yer maker(or something like that)song, and Plant's version "Sea of Love" -love it (and even the video-prob.cheesey, but romantic).

But yes, I was surprised the other day looking at the video's being posted - jarred 1 has been posting loads - and lots of duets pairing 2 great singers - I def. want to listen one of these day. Money prob. figures into - well, don't know how much- but expect quite a bit. Guess I'll take advantage & listen to some potentially great ones though. laugh

(btw- don't ya just love how it's called "sampling"aka stealing... unless someone else does it...)

Typically this would be a song I really enjoy, but my I found out my second husband had been talking to another woman.. and that he had said to her that this song reminded him of her. Needless to say, I didn't stick around much longer after that. very mad

This song still makes me cringe.

Stupid slow internet causes me to double post sometimes. Yay for living where there is a mutual telephone company where you just don't have any other options other than paying an arm and a leg for half the internet connection most people get for half the cost I pay. mumbling

elednuw: And then theres 2 Paul McCartny songs he should be ashamed of:Helen Wheels and Juniors Farm. What the hell was he thinking?.Total trash!!.

A lot of people sure Love that "trash". I like both songs and "Juniors Farm" has always been a favorite of mine. "Juniors Farm" was number 3 as a single in the USA and made number 16 in the UK.

I love that These songs all are from the real life experiences of Paul and Linda. RIP Dear Linda. sad flower

"Paul and Linda McCartney wrote “Junior’s Farm” as an homage to Claude “Curly” Putman, Jr., who’s farm they were staying at in Lebanon, Tennessee, along with Wings, in 1974. The band recorded the song at Nashville’s Sound Shop and released it as the A-side to a 7” single backed with “Sally G” in October, and the song went to number three on the U.S. charts."

"The real Junior’s Farm looks much today like it did when the McCartneys made their Tennessee sojourn 37 years ago. A few miles down a winding country road off of I-40 highway, you pull up to a wrought iron fence. A large pond is set in a slope near the road and a long driveway winds up to a stately white house on a hill. It was not too long after the success of 1965’s “The Green, Green Grass of Home” that Curly Putman, a young writer and plugger with Nashville publisher Tree, and his wife, Bernice, and their son, Troy, bought and moved into the farm."

"On the song’s chorus, McCartney gets more specific to his surroundings. “Let’s go, let’s go, let’s go, let’s go, Down to Junior’s Farm where I wanna lay low. Low life, high life, oh let’s go, Take me down to Junior’s Farm.” He and the band were certainly “laying low,” warming up for a major Wings tour. “High life” and “low life” seem to sum up the dual worlds of rock stars – one minute partying in jet planes, the next relaxing in the country. Or “low life” might refer to the darker side of rock stardom. (Putman recalls hearing that one of the band members got a little “rambunctious” in Nashville and wound up in jail.) Finally, the old man at the grocery seems like a character from rural Tennessee.

Regardless of where Paul and Linda drew inspiration from the song, they certainly had fun on Junior’s farm. “They just seemed to enjoy being out in the country. They rode horses. I have a pond and they went swimming in it…Paul was very likable, personable. He just seemed like one of us.”"
