SCatlyn: I've been through this quite a few times now.

The 1st time to meet(btw-we're married now), I wore a comfortable, but nice dress with black pantyhose(tights), but also wore elastic waist stretchy pants that flared over the mid-heel boots I was also wearing. (Reason for the pants was b/c it was very cold weather at both departure & destination.) I took the pants off before my final arrival.
Easy-wear pants are the simplest option for this- as well as either zip-up boots, slip-on shoes or Velcro, b/c you have to take your shoes off, belts if they're worn with pants for going through the security every time you have to change planes
(and during traveling, esp. while on the plane, it's much easier & quicker in the tiny on-board restrooms(toilets) than having to unzip, etc.).

I'll post what I do now when I travel in a 2nd post, which might have some options you'd like as well, but don't want it to be too confusing.

P.S.Winter scarf for neck is invaluable, too- when I was at the Amsterdam airport, everyone had them- from execs in suits to little kids- you still have to remove them and any coat or cardigan, jkt., etc. as well, when going through security, but well worth it(and onboard planes are cold, too)

Thank you! You are amazing, things I would not have thought of, if you travel often I guess it becomes second nature..I've never been out of SA before so your advice has truely helped! So glad it worked out for you too teddybear

serena123: The months are rolling by, going to be time soon for me to board that plane, what would you wear if you were meeting someone for the first time in person, something that would make his jaw drop to the floor? or something comfortable, with the right makeup and hairdo of course, would really appreciate any views or ideas
What I do now, is wear nice-looking, well-fitting sweatpants(jeggings would work, too, but maybe not as warm), and a comfortable, nice-looking top - all casual stuff, and shoes that slip on & off, but are good for walking, b/c you do lots of walking from one end of an airport to the other, even when you're able to use a shuttle, there's still lots of walking left. I also French-braid my hair- it's fairly wind, sleep, sweat(from rushing thru airports),and rainproof. However, use an elastic band with no metal- or they'll do a hand search of you after you've gone through the security detector.

Since it's your 1st time to meet, personally, I'd say have your appearance be something that would put a big smile on his face, and then save the jaw-dropping outfit for the next day(just my opinion- but it's like getting to surprise him twice). Oh, and if you've been close for a long time on the phone, you may have a tiny bit of shyness when you 1st meet, but if he's been real with you, that will last like 10 seconds - having been there, I know... and I'm naturally shy.

Now back to what to wear, etc. What I do now(b/c I live in his country, but go back to mine twice a year), is at the airport that's my last stop b/f the final one, is I do my hair & makeup(you usually need a voltage converter & plug adapter if you're using anything electric, btw) in the restrooms. Then at the final destination, whether it's him or a taxi sent for me, I have them pick me up 1 hour after my flight arrival time. This way I can fix anything that gets messed up in-between... and do any extras in the airport restroom-like teethbrushing, & deodorant if that's something you usually use.

**One thing you have to remember is this: you're limited to small sizes of liquids-and it all has to fit in approx. 1 liter clear ziploc-type bag-which also gets inspected at every stop. When I mentioned doing my hair, I just use a small travel blow-dryer, (converter), brush and water from the faucet to touch up my hair, and then hairspray or similar. But the hair product has to fit in the clear TSA required-type bag... as do most makeup products, oh, and toothpaste-get a small travel-size for your clear bag.

When I made my 1st trip over, I didn't care if other women looked at me funny while I was doing these things, but then I have noticed more & more doing the same thing, including the teeth-brushing grin

My advice is to consider the tradition of what ever country your going to and what you normally wear/ comfortable wearing. I am certain you wont need to try to look good.
I wish you luck

It should not be that cold here in October....Halloween is usually a warm night...but as far as what you wear.. It does not matter he loves you so much. You could wear a potato sack... a dress and cowboy boots would even do... Have fun with your planning and dream big.... We all want to hear that this turns out Happy Ever After...
