For anyone not familiar with this, it is a proposed pipeline to bring Tar Sand crude oil from Western Canada across the United States, a distance of nearly 2000 straight line miles. This pipeline wil cross untold pieces of private property. What are the PRO's and CON's of building and using this proposed pipeline?
I could have created a poll around this question but I'm not writing a book or engaged in a school project so I couldn't care less about the results. Much of it would be misinformed opinion anyway. To start off on the PRO side: It will bring Tar Sand crude from Canada to refineries on the gulf coast.
On the CON side: It will bring Tar Sand crude from Canada to refineries on the gulf coast.
Some of the topics for consideration are: COST BENEFIT RISK PAYBACK TIME SAFETY ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT ENERGY INDEPENDENCE TRADE BALANCE with Canada, Saudi Arabia, Nigeria et al JOB CREATION
Come on, I know a lot of people would like to weigh in on this.
rizlared: I think you will find the financial benefits will outweigh any opinion any American or Canadian will have, when it come to oil money rules.
That is certainly a valid point, however with the discovery of a cost effective way to extract enormous quantities of natural gas from underground to the point of making the USA the largest producer of nat gas in the world including Russia, the thirst for oil is going down slowly but surely. There is also a shift in thinking on the part of the transportation industry to transition away from diesel fuel in favor of LNG (Liquified Natural Gas) and CNG (Compressed...). US refiners are actually selling diesel fuel to outlets in the UK.
i have to say that by opening the keystone oil pipeline would be the best thing. we wouldnt have to rely on oil from countries that are questionable and unfriendly toward the u.s. but this president wont do it. the pipeline will create jobs in this nation

It a NO-BRAINER...if you ask me. With us Californians paying $4.00/Gallon gas and RISING! But, to quote Hillary Clinton..."what difference does it make, now!?" As long as Odumbo gets his beloved DNC a 100 MILLIONS DOLLARS for campaign contributions from some California EPA inflenced WACKO EMNVIRONMENTALIST...it will NEVER HAPPEN on this fart whistle's Presidents watch. IT's a shame politician can be brought and sold like this.

Because of the highly probable environmental risks for toxic contamination of public water systems, as well as permanently harming general ground and surface water bodies, this is one issue I do not find myself on the conservative side.
Unlike Al Gore's irrational global warming nonsense, the environmental risk assessments for the pipeline are based on real science and are well documented. They should not be ignored, imo. Arguably, adequate available safe clean potable water could possibly be a reason for a very big world conflict.

Be careful what you wish for, you just might get your wish. Gas prices: Keystone XL will increase gas prices for Americans—Especially Farmers •By draining Midwestern refineries of cheap Canadian crude into export-oriented refineries in the Gulf Coast, Keystone XL will increase the cost of gas for Americans. •TransCanada’s 2008 Permit Application states “Existing markets for Canadian heavy crude, principally PADD II [U.S. Midwest], are currently oversupplied, resulting in price discounting for Canadian heavy crude oil. Access to the USGC [U.S. Gulf Coast] via the Keystone XL Pipeline is expected to strengthen Canadian crude oil pricing in [the Midwest] by removing this oversupply. This is expected to increase the price of heavy crude to the equivalent cost of imported crude. The resultant increase in the price of heavy crude is estimated to provide an increase in annual revenue to the Canadian producing industry in 2013 of US $2 billion to US $3.9 billion.” •Independent analysis of these figures found this would increase per-gallon prices by 20 cents/gallon in the Midwest. •According to an independent analysis U.S. farmers, who spent $12.4 billion on fuel in 2009 could see expenses rise to $15 billion or higher in 2012 or 2013 if the pipeline goes through. At least $500 million of the added expense would come from the Canadian market manipulation.

I'm against it, like I am hydraulic fracturing. I've read that tar sands oil is even dirtier than conventional oil, that its extraction is very wasteful and intensive, the forests and habitat are of course put at risk, and there are HIGH risks of spills. More generally, money and time should be spent pursuing less destructive and greener energies, but battling the oil companies is obviously difficult and can only be done with an informed public.
