Pubs (55)

When I was in my 20s people would go to the local pub normally at the weekends to meet up and catch up as you might only see them once a week. Now Facebook, twitter, smart phones etc... eliminates a lot of the need to socialize in a pub as now it's all about being popular online. (which is kind of sad imo)

MarsMan: This hasn't just been caused by the supermarket cheap booze, it has also been caused by the total opposite, pubs charging outrageous prices for a pint.
Many pubs where I live do not open until lunch time, and then once the lunch trade is gone, close again till the evening, there are even some that don't open up till after 4pm as there is no longer the trade to justify opening, and even then if you go in midweek you might be the only person in the place.
yes I agree with you but when I'm in locals I see people all the time stocking up on booze the likes that people only used to do at Xmas,...

There's a pub in Wexford called magpie mays and they sure know how to look after all of their clientele, there is a large indoor lounge complete with an open fire and bar right beside it but has glass doors,I don't smoke now but when I used to I enjoyed it their best because some smoking rooms are too crowded and not enough ventilation that smoking outside is a relief compared to them,.

peachmelba: Do you think supermarkets selling cheap booze is enticing those people that were regular pub goers to stay at home and drink as they can no longer afford to go to the pub and socialise,do you think we will see more and more pubs closing?

if they any sense if budget
they hit alcohol in supermarkets etc and leave price of pint alone
