Maybe one day they will come up with a solution instead of "naying" every advance in other areas to lighten the load.

I can remember back when electicity was run by State Govts. It was "illegal" to run another power source when the Govt of the day provides one. My uncle had to change to the Govt provided electircity to his property even though the farm had been producing their own power for many years with diesel generator and batteries.
Although cost a small fortune to be connected, Govt said "We are able to connect you to the network. You must connect. Or we will end your farm subsidy for the diesel fuel you use for power generation, and other uses."
Now power companies are private and are driven the investor profits. They will do their best to use any Legislation to derive their profits.
I have had a number of vehicles which were able to go at very competitive speeds but there are some bits of legislation that have stopped me using the top speeds.
It is the Govt of the Day with the backing of multi-nationals that is slowing progress. But when the day comes when resources are struggling, there will be some multi-national company that "has the answer."

Orange City Council currently includes a "Water Storage Rate" on all properties....... including those farm properties that do not have Town Water.
Assesment is based on rainwater tanks and storage dams where the Council cannot provide a water supply.
My brother is trying to enlarge his dams, okay mainly for his water supply benefits but also to ensure that the Rural Fire Service does have adeqaute supplies when neded. Local RFS supports thie but local Council doesn't. He has lost a lot from bushfires and lack of resources.
