Those wages may seem to be too high but have you ever checked the public employee salary disclosure website? The CEO of the hospital I worked in made well over $500,000 as well as a few other hospital CEO's. Never could figure out the reasoning behind it given that they are only responsible for one hospital as opposed to an entire province or country. conversing teddybear

Hi Deb, I really do not blame anyone for taking money that anyone is willing to pay them. I am sure most of us would take what is offered. In my trade, I make an honest dollar for an honest day's work and I will retire with a meager pension. There is a real injustice though is the retirement income these people receive after they have served their term. teddybear bouquet

Only a fool would turn down pay increases, that's for sure. What irked the other healthcare employees the most is we would have to fight to get a 2% increase in pay and the CEO would get a 10-15% pay increase almost every year. That's where the healthcare tax dollars are going and the hospital pension plan is pretty hefty too. People who are self employed or in private industry will often have to save up funds into an RRSP while working to offset the meager pension that Canada provides. teddybear

I definitely have to be wise today to prepare for tomorrow. Who knows if they' ll even have pensions by the time I retire.

I still would rather live here though, than anywhere else.canada
