It's a bloody disaster! crying crying

I am running out of teams to support sigh

Australia - gone

England - gone

Spain - gone (used to work there)

Greece - gone (used to work there)

Now if only Ireland had got to Brasil I might have still been in with a long shot laugh

I am torn between enjoying the spectacle and the poverty and uncomfortable feeling that so many $$$$$ are being spent on just a couple of weeks of a soccer game?? blues

If I had the money I would. I'd rather see people with decent housing, Good medical care and good food to eat. I hope the thought of people living like animals doesn't keep you awake at night!!!

Sounds like you would make a good leader of the third world county, just the job for you eh!!!

Professional Football is a corrupt money oriented so called game rather than a sport.
It is being financed by dubious Billionaire Oligarchs and hyped up by the media for the mindless masses of morons who pay to attend matches, travel to watch it to the benefit of mainly parasite businesses who make money out of them.

In reality, at all professional matches, 22 egotistical primadonas are grossly overpaid to kick and head a plastic bag full of wind around a field aiming to get it within three wooden sticks at each end while barging and tripping each other up and diving for the referee to see or ignore.

As for England and the World cup - The so called team has one player with any so called talent and is being led by a monotonic near monosyllabic repetitive has been captain, under dubious advice and orders from a monotonic weak & negative equally overpaid manager, who selected young and inexperienced players.

He made them play out of natural positions knowing that they faced far superior opposition and as if was any real importance he should be removed.

He proved he is less use than a chocolate teapot.

Not at all - Most people I know say whet would be more fun would be Snail racing.

Better still - The alternative World Cup
Professional Football Managers forced to sky dive off the top of a 1000ft tower with no parachute and the Cup awarded to the one with the least damage -- grin uk

I think it is the same with most big sporting events now? Like the Olympics, Common Games, World Cup etc.

There is no 'profit' in them now for the host countries and I am not even sure there is the heralded flow-on effect of tourism either.

It is just a waste of taxpayers money, resources to build stadiums, swimming pools, velodromes etc. that are not going to be used to their full capacity again.

Then there is the idea that those funds could and should be used for other infrastructure such as schools, hospitals, roads, water etc. especially in poorer countries.

The Olympics are a rort of the OLYMPIC official company - they make the profit, and the Common Games is a totally outdated concept. We have the Common Games here in 2018 and hand on heart I would struggle to name 7 countries competing.

Then the icing on the cake is - who gives a cr*p who wins gold, are they doing 'illegal drugs'?? Drugs in sports has devalued the 'World No. 1" in my eyes. Too late to find out 3 yrs later that he/she cheated and whoever came 6th was the only person not cheating??

OK - getting off my soapbox now! Catchyalater possums

Hoping to catch some of Wimbledon if I can stay awake thru' the night to watch the 'live' matches. Bit hard when I have to work :(

Had my school reunion recently and one of the girls actually lives in Brasil and came over to Germany - she lives in one of the cities where matches are held.

Apparently they were lots of promises for the locals for improvements e. g. public transport etc. None of this happened, money went down corruption channels and they just closed all schools for 1 month.

This would have been a chance for Brasil to improve things in their country and make it more interesting for tourism which would have brought money into the country.

Doubt that this did work.

I like the way the tv director has been searching out pretty women in the crowd. Failed with Greece though, could only find a fat shirtless bloke who looked like he'd lived on kebabs for 20 years. ..your right about Colombia. .class act.
