Hi BC, you just have to go to your control panel and in there you will find either, "add remove programs" or "programs and features". You just Have to find Microsoft Security Essentials and highlight it and then click on uninstall. You should be good to go after that.

Simply not true, Microsoft have agree to support MS Essentials until 2015, any freezing that happens is most likely due to other compatible software on the machine. By removing MS Essentials you are leaving yourself wide open for cyber attacks, if you feel you must remove it, then immediately install some other protection.
Thank you all for trying to help. There is no securtiy essentials in add or remove I have as security McAffee Trying to run a full scan today would get to about 60% and the computer clicked off Tried this several times. Can't highlight either it all freezers up

Have a look in your security settings maybe there's something there. How long have you had it on your comp? You can take your computer back in time and reboot from that time and it will clean off anything after that time.. not sure if that will work for a security tho?

Hi BC, if Microsoft Security Essentials is not in the add remove, then it is not installed on your PC. What uptall suggested about doing a system restore to an earlier date will fix your problem. I don't think it is essentials at all for your problem but some other issue.
Where do I find my security settings? I did several times a system restore, but have not clue when it all started. Do know that the trouble started today and have been told to expect more trouble. MS wants me to buy a new computer. I only do the simple things, so don't need a lot of the features offered now.
Ken I am beginning to come to that conclusion now. Never have seen it there and had that side often cleaned up as programs showed up that were not needed.

No BC don't go buying a new Pc unless you really feel you want a new one. Try this, go back to add remove programs and then search through everything listed by the date. Now if you did not install anything by yourself today and there are programs that show they installed with todays date, then remove them.Sometimes certain programs with install updates without your knowledge and because XP is getting to be an older version now, the new updates will conflict with it. Lots of people run Xp without too many issues and i know it can be troublesome when you don't know what to do when these things happen. Hope this helps. If it does, do a system backup and remember the date because if you have any issues again you will have the back up that will fix your issues.

MS wants you to buy a new computer, is it a scam? We gets lots of phone scams about computers over here!! Did you put it on? If so when? Go back past that time and reboot from there...
I'm going for some new camera gear today and they sell computers, I'll ask in there for you..

she can also turn off automatic updates, I've got mine off on all my devices.
I would download Adwarecleaner and CCleaner and run it, and also I would deactivate - only to see what happens and if it helps - one after the other Add-on/Plugin.
Do you have by accident maybe two anti-virus programs installed?

Trying to answer you here. McAfee has found several virusses. I am only allowed one security at the time.
NO I don't want to buy another computer I like what I have. Getting messages from Microsoft a lot telling me they no longer update XP and that I run the risk of not being protected now.
