how come god doesn't grant everyone's prayers, like jesus said he would?
jesus said that if you imagine the outcome of the prayer then god will make it come true.
he said that at least twice.
he never said god will make every 5th prayer come true, or only prayers said on saturdays. no, he said they will come true.

if this friday at 12.00 midday, everyone in australia was encouraged to pray for a particular child in brisbane that is dying of a terminal illness, i wonder what would happen?
possibly millions would be asking god to cure her.
all praying at once so he'd know it was important to all of us.
god thinks of us as his children.
we all actually know, without a doubt, that the little child in brisbane wouldn't get better.
but we all pictured her getting better when we prayed, just like jesus told us to.

does that mean:
1/ god is an abusive, uncaring parent?
2/ jesus was lying to the human race?
3/ that god isn't real and has never actually existed?

there isn't even a fraction of 1 piece of evidence that god exists. yet people cling to the hope that 1day they will meet up again with all their relatives that have died, and live forever.[and get a free set of steak knives too.]

Regarding the prayers that the child doesn't die, in biblical terms.....if the child's body dies....the soul will live forever. Jesus also said be carful and prepared for what you ask for. If the child will not be able to live a full life, having to be cared for all it's life around the clock. Are the parents ready, able and willing deep deep deep inside...prepared financially, emotionally, physically and spiritually to care for that body ALL of it's days.

I found this for you so that you may understand better...

This verse pertains to the sinners prayer and prayer for salvation

Matthew 7,8
For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.

I. Prayer is a privilege extended only to Christians.

A. God does not hear sinners (John 9:31).

1. “Sinners” literally, means one who misses the mark. It denotes the wicked or criminal. Specifically, it means those outside of Christ.

2. Must be a worshipper of God and a doer of God’s will (1 John 3:22).

B. Sin has always been a hindrance to prayer (Psm. 66:18; Isa. 59:2).

C. God hears the righteous (1 Pet. 3:12).

II. We often hinder our own prayers

A. Lack of faith (Jas. 1:5-8; Mark 11:24).

B. We ask amiss (Jas. 4:1-3). Amiss means “evilly” or “out of bounds.” The intent of our asking is for our own pleasure.

C. Lacking forgiveness (Mark 11:25-26).

D. Praying for show (Matt. 6:5-6).

E. How we pray.

1. Repetition (Matt. 6:7).

2. Made in pretense (Mark 12:38-40). Pretense means to cloak. For example, by making a long prayer the person appears to be religious though he may only be doing so for show.

F. Relationship with spouse (1 Pet. 3:7).

III. God answers according to His will.

A. Prayer answered hundreds and thousands of years later (Heb. 11:13-16).

B. His answer may not be in agreement with my will (1 John 5:14-15).

1. If we ask according to His will. How do we know? Study!

2. Paul’s thorn in the flesh is a good example (2 Cor. 12:8-9).

IV. Can a Christian obtain forgiveness through prayer though sinful?

A. Simon the sorcerer was told to by Peter (Acts 8:22).

B. Of course, you can always ask another to pray for you (Acts 8:24; James 5:16).

Prayer is an honor and one which we must handle respectfully. Our sins/mistakes....our actions, our words, our relationships and even how we pray can all hinder our prayers from being heard. God does not answer all prayers. The main reason is the simple fact that we often do not deserve for our prayers to be heard due to any number of reasons already mentioned.
Jul 8, 2014 11:34 AM CST praying doesn't actually work.
I personally have experienced many many many prayers being answered. The best part is....I've come to understand that our prayers must come the the understanding that if what we are asking isn't good for us and we aren't trying to do the right things out there, get angry and frustrated because they aren't answered they exact way we want them answered......we actually miss the blessings...OR....we give up to soon and walk away from it. Sometimes we have to be patient, and learn what we need to learn in order to enjoy and receive the answered prayer in joy. Sometimes, when it comes to asking God to allow someone's body to live....we really should ask that God's will be done so that person doesn't suffer. We should allow them to let go so they can stop suffering and their soul can live in peace and love.

My cousin a few years ago...called me spewing and drunk that she hated God for taking her mother. I asked her since she knows everything here on earth had to leave sometime or another, and she never listened to her anyways......why on earth would she be angry for her mother's soul to finally go live in peace and love. Seriously! Why wouldn't we want that for anyone! To get angry with God for that.....is being selfish wanting the person to continue suffering just so you can visually see them.

Some times to see some one truly continue living.......you must allow them to let go of their bodies.....

"Be careful what you wish for, you may receive it.
The Monkey's Paw

On a dark and stormy night in England, The Whites – Mr. and Mrs. White and their adult son Herbert – are inside enjoying a cozy evening around the fire.

Soon Sergeant-Major Morris arrives. He's been in the army in India for the past 21 years. He tells the Whites stories of his adventures in that faraway land and shows them a monkey's paw that has the power to grant three wishes. Mr. White wants the paw, but Morris tells him it's cursed – people get hurt when their wishes are granted. He tries to burn the paw in the fire, but Mr. White snatches it up and buys it. After Morris leaves, Mr. White, following Herbert's suggestion, wishes for two hundred pounds, the amount of money he would need to pay off the bank and own the house outright.

The next morning, Herbert goes off to work as usual and Mrs. White watches for the two hundred pounds to show up. In the afternoon, a fancily dressed man pays the Whites a visit. He is from Maw and Meggins, the company Herbert works for. The man tells the Whites that Herbert has been killed in a machinery accident at its factory. The man says that the company takes no blame for Herbert's death but wants to give the Whites two hundred pounds to help with their loss. Mrs. White screams and Mr. White faints.

Full of sadness over Herbert's death, Mr. and Mrs. White bury him in the cemetery two miles from their home. One night Mrs. White gets a bright idea: use those other two wishes to bring Herbert back! She shares her plan with Mr. White. He thinks it's a bad idea – he could barely look at Herbert's mangled body when he went to identify it. His wife really turns up the heat, though, and he caves in. Mr. White pulls out the cursed monkey's paw and wishes Herbert back to life.

Nothing happens, so the Whites go back to bed. Soon after, someone – or something – starts pounding on the door. Mrs. White is sure it's Herbert – it just took him a minute to get there from the cemetery. Mr. White is sure it's Herbert too, and he doesn't want his son to get in the house, so he makes his third wish on the monkey's paw. The knocking stops. Mr. White hears Mrs. White open the door. He hears her scream out in agony because Herbert is not there. He goes outside with her and sees that the road is completely empty.

Love is in the air
Everywhere I look around
Love is in the air
Every sight and every sound

And I don't know if I'm being foolish
Don't know if I'm being wise
But it's something that I must believe in
And it's there when I look in your eyes

Love is in the air
In the whisper of the trees
Love is in the air
In the thunder of the sea

And I don't know if I'm just dreaming
Don't know if I feel sane
But it's something that I must believe in
And it's there when you call out my name

Love is in the air
In the rising of the sun
Love is in the air
When the day is nearly done

And I don't know if you're an illusion
Don't know if I see it true
But you're something that I must believe in
And you're there when I reach out for you

Love is in the air
Everywhere I look around
Love is in the air
Every sight and every sound
And I don't know if I'm being foolish
Don't know if I'm being wise

But it's something that I must believe in

Matthew 7,8
For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.

So Theresa, are you seriously saying that people of other religions are wasting their time praying??

A. God does not hear sinners (John 9:31).

1. “Sinners” literally, means one who misses the mark. It denotes the wicked or criminal. Specifically, it means those outside of Christ.

F. Relationship with spouse (1 Pet. 3:7).

III. God answers according to His will.
Is the the "get out" clause Theresa? If a prayer is not answered (and the prayer was said earnestly, by a righteous person, a Christian... etc, all the provisos above,) then of course, it "wasn't God's will."

A. Prayer answered hundreds and thousands of years later (Heb. 11:13-16).

B. His answer may not be in agreement with my will (1 John 5:14-15).

1. If we ask according to His will. How do we know? Study!

Thanks for the welcome mr Lookin. :)
I was brought here by the prospect of a nice solid, chunky religious debate. I know, upsetting for many people. But hey, they don't HAVE to read it.

I'm interested in reading more verses from the Book of Lookin, after you posted a snippet earlier.
So, did you choose your nickname based on the holy prophet Lookin? You knew then, that the Prophet Lookin drove a donkey cart before he had his revelation? liar

i think praying is a thought process, e.g. energy and therefore if enough gets dreamed up, would work, certainly could produce results

I knew it would end up upsetting some; so sorry EPIRB. cheers Have one to cheer up.

I got myself an epirb a couple of months ago, for work. Well it's not a beacon as such. It just transmits my GPS position via satellite so the boss can follow me on a web page to see if I spend too long at one site. Nah not really I'm sure he's got better things to do. But if I get in trouble, I remove the emergency cap with my last ounce (sorry gram) of strength and press the SOS button. That sends my position to the emergency services.

Obscuritan: Lucky it was written in "Mid Evil" English, not that "Fully Evil" version that came after the medieval period.

The prophets were wrong?? Couldn't be, they were inspired by God (with a capital G.

Yes...the prophets can be and many were wrong for they are only humans according to Jesus. And follower of The Christ, The Messiah, The Savior believes that only Jesus was perfect living the perfect life, showing by examples.

After all....did he order the adulterous woman to be stoned as the old prophets said should be done!? Amongst other traditions the prophets, Sadducees and Pharisees said God said to follow were mere desires to keep the patriarchal ways of their forefather. Remember.....God is love and forgiveness.

It is written......Jesus went against those He God showed favor of those to teach because they were teaching as the wished.....not as He God instructed....not to mention...Jesus performed miracles on the Jews very strict sabbath teaching God said not to...Jesus/God in the flesh called them liars too....

22 And, behold, a woman of Canaan came out of the same coasts, and cried unto him, saying, Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou son of David; my daughter is grievously vexed with a devil.

23 But he answered her not a word. And his disciples came and besought him, saying, Send her away; for she crieth after us.

24 But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.

25 Then came she and worshipped him, saying, Lord, help me.

26 But he answered and said, It is not meet to take the children's bread, and to cast it to dogs.

27 And she said, Truth, Lord: yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters' table.

28 Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou wilt. And her daughter was made whole from that very hour.

29 And Jesus departed from thence, and came nigh unto the sea of Galilee; and went up into a mountain, and sat down there.

30 And great multitudes came unto him, having with them those that were lame, blind, dumb, maimed, and many others, and cast them down at Jesus' feet; and he healed them:

31 Insomuch that the multitude wondered, when they saw the dumb to speak, the maimed to be whole, the lame to walk, and the blind to see: and they glorified the God of Israel.

32 Then Jesus called his disciples unto him, and said, I have compassion on the multitude, because they continue with me now three days, and have nothing to eat: and I will not send them away fasting, lest they faint in the way.

33 And his disciples say unto him, Whence should we have so much bread in the wilderness, as to fill so great a multitude?

34 And Jesus saith unto them, How many loaves have ye? And they said, Seven, and a

35 And he commanded the multitude to sit down on the ground.

36 And he took the seven loaves and the fishes, and gave thanks, and brake them, and gave to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude.

37 And they did all eat, and were filled: and they took up of the broken meat that was left seven baskets full.

38 And they that did eat were four thousand men, beside women and children.

39 And he sent away the multitude, and took ship, and came into the coasts of Magdala.

And let's not forget.....After Jesus rose from the grave....it is written that Jesus showed himself first to women.....because it was women who after learning the truth FROM Jesus didn't deny Jesus. They were far more courages than the male disciples who not only denied him after he was captured...but it was a man who handed him over to the Roman Empire to be persecuted.
