UK government plans tax on fresh air to ‘help improve environment’

Whilst this article was published on April 1st this article represents the reality of the situation.

UK rural

The air we breathe is set to be taxed as part of a revolutionary Government plan to raise more money.

Rural folk will have to cough up the most under the new charge – already dubbed a gasp bill – while those living in our polluted cities will be expected to pay less.

The Air Tariff Control system will assess charges in different areas of the country and every household will be liable for payments, which will be administered by local authorities and added to council tax bills.

The project, to be run by a private firm under a five-year licence, is designed to fund air quality improvement initiatives.

One senior air technician at the Environment Agency said: “Air is natural but, just like water, it is a finite resource that we have to manage sensibly. Water quality and supply improved with privatisation and there is no reason why this should not have the same impact on air. The aim is to allow everyone to enjoy high-quality breathing air.”

The scheme, which the Government believes will help reduce levels of asthma and bronchitis, will see each region of the country allocated an Air Band to determine how much each household will pay.

The Lake District is likely, according to
the documents, to be in the highest bracket while residents of cities such as London, Manchester and Birmingham are earmarked for rebates because of traffic fumes.

Special plants will later be built to capture clean air and regulate its flow around the country, monitored by tracking devices being developed at Ayr University.

But critics believe the Coalition plan will see the end of free air for all in the UK, with private companies cashing in.

One Labour backbencher said last night: “This has literally taken my breath away.” uncertain

I am glad its gone..applause

I could never see how a tiny population like Aus. had to be the leaders...

Besides I still don't buy this global warming stuff.. I really don't. I read heaps about it... but the truth is..

I believe the earth can revolt and do whatever it wants to.. when its ready.. and I don't think a 100 yrs or so research is enough to make me believe any of the stuff they keep scare mongering with..

I still wonder what made the earth heat itself up to a point where the dinosaurs disappeared..

when I know that for sure.. then I can make a judgement on this carbon carryon... til then...

the way I see it... let the countries who are the biggest world polluters go first..

anyone want to share buy a Pawlonia tree farm for future carbon emissions trading??

In Queensland electricity prices reached zero mid day last week due to the amount of solar power been fed back into the grid the wholesale cost reached zero.

There are a few people with vested interest rubbing there hands with glee with the killing off of the carbon tax, however there are others like those holding vested interests in renewable energy, solar, wind, wave and thermal that are the not happy-chappies.
I think the carbon tax was silly, a stupid move, selling off the power grid in the first place was stupid to, but when they sold off the utilities everyone was promised lower prices because goods and services pricing reduced according to supply and demand.
Which was a blatant lie as soon as the liberal parties rich flunkies stopped making heaps the goal posts have again been moved

Those sale to grid systems are only half built as the power that a person produces should be stored rather than sold and bought back . Sell the extra . Bit harder to sort that out though .

yeah i watched a renewable energy program on TV other day, one set up yanks have going online has miles and miles of mirrors directed to heap of salt atop a tower, some how the salt turned to sodium and works as massive batter big enough to light up Navada

Does not sound cheap , but solar panels were not either 10 years ago . First grade panels are now less than 10 % of what they were .

Simple problems unless you know them cause real big problems

12 volt panel is not , they poke out 20 , voltage controllers have to control the volts going into batteries and have limits both in volts and amps . Places selling panels are not saying what the restrictions are and would sell any thing , try putting 3ooo watt (270 amp ) worth of power into 12 volt batteries , no controller that I know of will do that as the highest I know of do 90 amp and the best 60 besides this the batteries I have are supposed to charge at 10-13 % of their 20 hour capacity . All this info is skipped by the marketers of the products .

i dunno much about it, but have 3 panels tucked away totaling 27 watts I had hooked up to a car battery running 40 lt Waeco fridge and worked ok, don't think it did the battery much good its gone to battery heaven already

those panels are putting out 2 amp tops , very little power ,fridges use quite a bit . Car batteries have about 100 cycles and then die , their death comes quick too , one day all full of life and sparks next carrion . Deep cycle batteries have about 7000 cycles and die a miserable death over years . Resuscitated my big ones from last year , swap a liter of fluid from the top cell to the bottom one , plays catch-up and starts the weak cell charging ,more so when I hook my white elephant charger/inverter up to it and give them 15.6 volts .

yeah i'd be looking for a deep cell one to replace it, was a spare for the ute heavy duty battery on camper trailer was ute charged as you drove etc spent two half years on side alpine highway and, no brownswiss on hand, fresh milk in tee coffee of course took priority, tis bottom line i reckon

you might have to try UHT sachet milk , keeps for ever . Comes in liter pacs as well . 400 watt worth of panels would be the go for a fridge , but that's not the end of it . You can get cheap battery controllers , however the battery needs to be overcharged once a month (equalised) . It can be done by taking out the controller and watching a volt meter for two hours a month . Lead acid wash batterys need 15 volt plus for that

i brought deep cell scotter battery for a electric fence unit, ended up with two for the price of one but, they are to big to fit in the unitlaugh

Good, now the tax is gone, Wingnut, Dickhead or more commonly known as Abbott can leave now. There is no more need for a spoilt brat and a religious freak. I won't dignify Abbott by using the title normally reserved for those who are Australia's top political leader. A bigger favour would be to call a double dissolution election like he wanted earlier.

Well I must say, it's very brave of you to state your views so openly Merri. I'm surprised you haven't been howled down as yet. I guess I'm somewhat on the skeptic side as well, but i don't know enough to be too certain.
Like everyone else we have to rely on the scientists who study this to form our opinions. Trouble is, Science has been wrong before, as we all know.
Couple of other points below:

Merriweather: I am glad its gone..

I could never see how a tiny population like Aus. had to be the leaders...
We weren't leading with this, other countries have been carbon trading before us, ie, Europe.

It wasn't warm weather that killed the dinosaurs, it was an asteroid, which threw up atmospheric dust, which caused a drop in temperature, death of plant life and hence starvation amongst dinosaurs. The exact mechanism is still in dispute tho.

when I know that for sure.. then I can make a judgement on this carbon carryon... til then...

the way I see it... let the countries who are the biggest world polluters go first..
Per head of population that's us actually. Only because we grow food for others of the world's population to eat, and we do it in a way that is energy intensive.

anyone want to share buy a Pawlonia tree farm for future carbon emissions trading??

If our CO2 is really going to overheat the world, we won't be able to stop it with the alternatives we have so far. I.e., solar power, wind, etc, is not going to mature soon enough to do the job. I think we will come up with something in the not so distant future to reabsorb that CO2 and lock it up. Then it is just a matter of fine-tuning the climate exactly how we want it.

Obscuritan: Hmmm... not keen as they are an import. Chinese aren't they?
What about the Southern Bluegum, wouldn't they do a pretty good job too? In the US the Paulownia is already a pest species. As are Eucalypts too.

yes... Chinese...

but such pretty flowers and really gorgeous big leaves..
grin

reminded me of pumpkin leaves.. which is why I liked them..

But I am not keen on Eucalypts, the whole of Aus is full of them, so I figured we have enough, so I don't have any..

besides, with eucalypts , because they don't shed leaves.. you cannot work out which season you are in...

so, its not like you can go awwh and ahhh... here comes spring..

they look pretty well the same all the time.. doh JMO of course..

I don't hate them... I just choose to look at what is about, and not add to the population of eucalypts.. wave
