I have been debating as to whether to get one of these wonderful items of technology for a while now, any feedback as to breakdowns or general legality?

Is it one of these boxes that streams loads of Tv and movies.. ? If so buy one, they're easy to hide.

As I said before all you need to do is install XBMC onto your hard drive with two or three decent repos and you're up...

Takes all of 5mins to install and 5-15mins to download (depending on your internet speed)

As Fraya said before it can be put onto a CD/DVD or USB...

They are for sale for circa 80 euro and you get all the Sky channels for a one off payment, but I am sure Sky must have some way to combat their loss of subscription revenue.

Be carefull Stanley, this very much a cowboy industry.Reports of lines across the screen at different times on all channels and the freezing of screen at regular intervals on all channels.
My advice would be try to find a few people who have gotten it installed from the same source and are happy with ithandshake

I had it installed and took it off cause I don't watch TV much. The links I gave will work properly if you follow the instructions and your Lappy or other has the power..

If I need to watch soaps I goto Filmon and hit UK channels or myiplayer (which has all the Brit freewiew and USA channels)

XBMC will work perfectly on 'puter, USB or you can burn it to a disc..

Stan has no choice but to cut corners because the farmers charge way too much for their produce...

The Ex's father got into that in a big way. He had 2 big dishes on the side of the house. I helped him set up the networking at the time and IP addresses and all that sort of stuff. He looked after the card/keys or whatever it is. The impression I got was, that yeah, the potential is there to share with guys in Italy, Germany, Pub owners in Alicante... etc etc that sort of thing. Lads that would have a combined total of 1,000s of channels, Continental versions of Sky sports. As an example, German version of Sky Sports... all the languages would be coded into the stream, so you could pick up the English commentary on it. The one thing that stuck out though was that he spent an awful lot of time on... 'maintaining it'. The system changes every few months... different encryption techniques etc I got the impression he was spending more time keeping abreast of new updates and developments keeping the whole thing going, than he was actually watching the TV. laugh

That was a few years ago now, though. Might be different, or more streamlined now.

Reminds me of the very british style anoraks who get hard from the technics rather than enjoying the loot as such.
