All uniforms are equalisers. Kids wear school uniforms so that poor children are not embarrassed and picked upon by the children of wealthy parents who could afford the fancy clothes. Making people look the same is a way of assuaging divisions between people.
Islam takes this a step further. Not only does the burqa uniform disguise displays of wealth and status, but it disguises even the god-given inequality which is beauty itself. And this is way too extreme in my opinion.

Beauty is a contest between women as much as it is a trait which attracts men. Nearly every plain Jane girl would like to be the prom queen just as every average boy wishes he was captain of the football team, a millionaire, or really good at fighting.
