Mnowsa, it's not an irish idiom. All I'm asking is, if marriage has done so much for society, what impact has the disolution of those marriages done?

Oh...the impact is simply heartbreaking and irreversible, to say the least. But the worst impact has fallen upon the "the kinder and gentler" gender which is female. Females have been worst affected by this social "epidemic" as they are struggling to give their best to our societies.

I could slag marriage off and say its just a piece of paper but I won't because its entirely up to the couple getting married,,, where thetes children involved i suppose it is good in that if the couple split up it makes things easier to do with the children regarding their security etc.
Everyone to their own and even tho I'm divorced now I wouldn't change things and my two kids are proud to have their dads name,
It really is a couples personal choice and other people giving their opinion on it could be for it or against going on their own experiences...

I agree with you..... It is heartbreaking to see the fall-out but I think that children are the worst effected by a break up
