Lately, I came out of a bout with it. A combination of medication adjustments and some self work.

Do anyone else have to deal with it? How do you manage it?

Yes....I was diagnosed at 17 with depression.

Since then...bouts of it and then long periods of "normal"(for want of a better word)....but have learnt a heap about it, and myself, in the process. I could write a thesis on it professor

Happy to discuss more with you, Track, in email. I have plenty of tips I could offer.

Feel free to message me.

Just tried to message you but fell outside your mail settings.

I never had those periods of normal like you, even when I am doing ok, seems like there is still one foot stuck in the mud. I have tried many medications, therapy, spent years in a online support group, and so on.

I wouldn't mind comparing notes with you, I think it would be interesting and informative for us both.

Depression stems from a lack of self-love. Love yourself and it will go away. That simple.

False.

I am not going to get into a debate online with people about the subject but neither will I allow misleading statements like yours slip through.

That is an unfounded statement.

Bucketloads of B complex vitamins, flaxseed oil, sunshine directly on my skin, plenty of outdoor exercise and avoiding certain music when I suspect I'm going down that road thumbs up

So I am going to explain myself, and I hope the people who read this and are going though something similar can benefit from what I am about to say here. I was depressed for a loooong time. I struggled with it on my own. Why? Because it is shameful to have mental problems. It was my secret. A few years back, right on this website, a BELOVED friend of mine whom I met, and ADORED, committed suicide. My life changed in many ways since that time. I have now come to understand so much more. I am a changed person. It miraculously happened for me. I see the world through a different set of eyes. I am still the same person. Or am I....? Depression in a nutshell is a lack of love in one's life, coupled with unpleasant childhood experiences which mark us for LIFE.
Regain JOY for life. Enjoy everything there is to enjoy as if it were yuour last day here on earth. Love yourself, love others, appreciate everything. Take nothing for granted, That is foolishness and punishment ultimately, if it results in LOSS. Last but not least, stop questioning what is the meaning of life and simply live it and have some fun. JMO

cheers

I had a friend the other day while talking just kinda "blort out", " How is your depression coming along". I was stumped.. I kind of stammered a bit and then said, " I don't think I am depressed, I do think that there are some challenges that are hard to deal with but that does not mean I am depressed". He seemed to act as though I was in some kind of denial. It was annoying that he felt he knew what my mental state was to a clinical degree. I know that depression is something that is very real and that it can happen to anyone....But I also believe that like in the case above it was presumptuous for that individual to make such a serious conclusion. It seems that many times people around us that we think really understand us can have a vision of what we are that is so far off the mark. I am glad that you have dealt with your situation. I hope you don't have to deal with that again. I do believe that people that have become depressed are not stuck in that state of mind permanently. I know that lately I have heard and read exactly that. That if you find yourself "depressed" you will always have to be treated like it is a disease with no cure. I just don't think that is the case. This really became a hot topic since the passing of Robin Williams. But again I wish you all the best and glad to hear you are feeling better.

Not 100 percent sure what happened
I got that text that ended my last relationship . On the way to my first dietitian appointment that toughened my resolve that I would not fail
.
.
.
How my attitude changed I have no idea suddenly I didn't feel sad .
It could be the massive change in diet less red meat more chicken more veggie protein .
And of course the loss of so far just over 10 kilos in 6 weeks has halted the knee pain.
.
.
.
So yep I'm a happy happy chap
Hopefully I'll be able to come off the meds
I can use the extra $$ for clothes once I've lost all the weight
